Save your money, the food is mediocre at best. Came out luke warm and not tasty at all. They were out of 3 things we asked for. The server was young and not good, but that was excusable, as you could tell she was a first time server. Figured the food would make up for it.... huge disappointment. Turned out the server was the best thing about the visit. Go figure.
Food was not hot, not up to usda standards, bread was greasy, like soaked in oil, tamales was cold, plate was cold, enchiladas was cold. service was bad. Waitress, did bring food out according to customer, getting our order mixed with another group. She gave one of our people a taco plate, while the person was in the middle of eating it, brought another plate and stated that’s not your plate, this is your plate. What did she expect the person to ? Spit it out and give her the plate back. That place is usually pretty good.
The food was average but the prices on the menu did not reflect what was charged at the cash register. For two people, we paid approximately $5.00 more for our bill than the menu prices reflected.
Oh my god. If having food in less than 2 hours is your thing I'd suggest going to another restaurant. We ordered, watch 3 other tables come in, get served an leave before they came out and told us our meal would be comped but had to still wait for them to make it. Having it comped was nice, but come on! After whatever screw up happened our waitress wouldn't even come to our table for refills. Just terrible service from start to finish.Returned for lunch 2/8/22, food was TERRIBLE! Beans were bland and flavorless, the enchilada was also unsalted and looked like puke, over easy egg still had runny whites everywhere. Gross. Do not recommend. Sad since I've been eating here all my life. New owners have ruined a good little spot.
Worst service and food ever, dont order a taco salad as its not a salad, the service was horrible not only did she forget we was here but our order as well, a real taco salad has lettuce n cooked veggies and cheese, when addressed with waitress ahe said she snt know and just brings out the plates and walked away
First off, the food SUCKED. The meat I had was flavorless, and the portions were not in line with the cost. I was also charged for sopaipillas, which I didn't ask for, and would have been perfectly happy without. Otherwise the staff was polite, but the restaurant isn't, in my view, worth ever stopping at again.
Had a really bad experience here, this is my first and last time coming to this restaurant unfortunately... the waitress we had was very rude, and left our food waiting to get cold, we were waiting for an hour. We decided to leave and we got our food to go and 2 of our orders were wrong. After getting the orders corrected, the waitress proceeded to make comments about the situation but not to my face. The food was cold and really not good, I do not recommend this place.
We enjoyed our visit to El Sombrero. We were greeted and told to sit where we wanted. What a pleasant experience after a disappointment at Sofia’s, where they wouldn’t seat us. (I’m handicapped, can’t mask, and have service dog that is well behaved and has sat under hundreds of restaurant tables, usually unnoticed except when we enter & leave.) El Sombrero welcomed and well accommodated. We had questions about food, including vegetarian and pork/lard-free options. Again, accommodating! Food took awhile but my corn tortillas were freshly made for shredded beef hand-rolled enchiladas. My companion had a stuffed burrito. Both were very good, proper, very warm temperatures on hot plates. Chips & salsa were good (though we’re New Mexicans and prefer hotter but probably best like it is for most people.) We sat in the front of the restaurant almost alone, and upon using restroom discovered what looked like a garden/sun room in back, where many other customers (regulars I suppose) were seated. Next time! We’ll definitely stop there again when traveling through Socorro.
If I could post a negative star review I would. This place has gone down hill!!!! The service was terrible. 2 waitresses and one cook to serve 3 tables and it took over an hour for an incomplete and cold order. We asked to talk to the manager and Yolanda came to our table and I think did more damage to the already worse dining experience I've had. I did not eat my food since my wife received an incorrect order and I was asked why I did not eat that's why my food was cold. Will never go back to this atrocious place and will spread the word of how horrible this place is.
Love the decor, food was not good. My taco tasted and looked like it came from Taco Bell, and the beans tasted old and were unseasoned, and rice was overcooked. Chile relleno was soggy and unseasoned. Enchilada tasted like it had been microwaved and was sitting in some weird oil.

Under new management with higher prices. They charge for chips and salsa. No beer or alcohol.. Food was rather tasteless. However very clean and attractive atmosphere.
The food was all burnt. Everything we ordered was burnt. As if they hadn't cleaned the grill ever and there was pieces of black charcoal on all the meat. Disgusting.
We have been eating here for years and stop every time we are in Socorro, but never again. It has gradually gone down hill with changing the menu, smaller & cheaper servings, and just not as good. We arrived at 11 AM today and were the only people in the restaurant. The waitress brought our drinks and took our order at 11:05. At 11:40 our meals came! All three of our dinners were cold; my rice like it had just come out of the refrigerator and all else barely room temperature. The waitress took them all back saying she would put them under the warming light. We asked if they couldn't microwave them. She brought them back 10 min. later and only the plate was warm. And the food wasn't that good, my chicken enchilada had five small pcs of chicken on it (just not the same). We stood at the register for 5 or 6 min. before someone came to check us out.
This place is now Los Sombreros and I don't know how long it has been open as such. They didn't have an alcohol license as of Sept 2021. My husband had Chile Rellenos and I had Chicken Mole Enchilada. I thought the Mole was fine and my spouse said it was a little too sweet ; we both enjoyed our dishes. They need to do some work on the grounds outside.
The inside is clean and cute. The people inside are really nice. Got takeout, food was hot and good.
