I made a reservation for 7:15 Saturday evening for our 15 year anniversary, it was very busy and noisy but that is not a complaint, it probably had to do with our reservation time for 7:15 on a Saturday night but that was the earliest reservation time available, plus the space is not that large, it was difficult to communicate unless I was to raise my voice louder than the other people at larger tables, but that is expected when a small dining space is very busy.
We had to wait close to an hour before our main meal arrived and part of that had to do with us arriving 10 minutes early, we arrived at 7:05 and was seated at a table for 2 immediately, we got our scallop starter 10 minutes later and our main dish arrived shortly after 8pm, as I already mentioned, it was busy so I don't believe the longer wait time had to do with the kitchen staff being slow, (that being said,) the food was well worth the wait, we each purchased the salmon and it was the best tasting salmon my wife and I have ever eaten.
I recommend this restaurant but try to reserve a less busy time if possible, perhaps you can call and ask when it may be less busy before reserving a time slot, I will be going back.

Fantastic experience -- this place is a little gem in Canning that I didn't even know about! The food was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere was elevated but cozy. We went for dinner, but the brunch menu looks excellent as well. I can't wait to go back!

I had the Korean Bulgogi Burger with Harvest Salad for lunch today and it was absolutely phenomenal. The server Bella was very friendly and helpful. I will certainly be returning!

We were staying just a few doors down at the Farmhouse Inn B&B, which recommended Dickie Baxter. We were going to drive several miles but decided to walk just a few hundred feet and we are so glad. The atmosphere was so cozy and the food was so delicious. We’ve been having the same style seafood for quite some time coming up through Maine and New Brunswick and then Nova Scotia. Their chef puts an amazing twist on many of the items. We had a fish, scallop, shrimp, lobster chowder that was so different so delightful, it was broth-based instead of cream based, I’ve never had the style before and was so delighted. We then had the seared sea scallops, which were so fresh, so beautifully seared and uniquely seasoned, they melted in your mouth. Bella, our server, so energetic and professional. When we came in for dinner, there was only about five or six people in the restaurant, within 30 minutes there was 40 to 50 people and even though she was working it by herself, she never became overwhelmed. Her energy and professionalism were absolutely amazing. for the size of the restaurant there were many wine choices for us to choose from. Bella recommended a couple of different types, a bubbly, a white and a red and they all were terrific. If you are in Canning or anywhere near Wolfsville, make a trip to Dixie Baxter, taproom and bistro you will not be disappointed.

Bella was serving/greeting/bartending on her own with a pretty full house when we visited. Her service was flawless and she was so professional. The food was also top notch and delicious. I’d recommend anyone in the area to visit.

This is my favourite restaurant in Nova Scotia! The chowder is top tier and the specials never disappoint. The cozy and intimate atmosphere is lovely and the charm has been preserved in the renovation of the historic building. Thank you for the excellent service and incredible food!

This is the part that I really was surprised the quality of the food was a high-end four diamond in the big cities quality of the service good not excellent the quality of the vibe or the heartbeat I was really disappointed the design has a really bad Echo we were sitting on the side we are more advanced in age the average customer there it's a bistro I have no problem with bistros but I could hear people talking laughing like they were sitting right beside us there were about at the bar we're sitting at least 20 ft from them we could hear the waitress talking to the kitchen of subjects that we should not been hearing we are not trying to spy on people it was so clear keep in mind we're advance in age

Absolutely fantastic food and service!!! I've eaten at many great restaurants and had many great meals but Dickie Baxter's is by far one of the best restaurants I've eaten at. Tucked away in Canning NS this restaurant deserves to be packed every night. We were a party of 4 and we had the Korean nachos, the burrata bruschetta, the chowder, the mussels, and special tenderloin and scallops. Everything was incredibly flavorful, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. And the service was excellent!! Erin was our server and she was knowledgeable, super personable and prompt. And Katrina at the front was wonderful as well. I can not say enough about this fantastic restaurant. If you have to drive an hour or more to get there, do it!!! It's worth it!!!
