Fantastic food, quick and efficient service. Restaurant has a nice vibe to it as well. I’ve been looking for a Jamaican restaurant for time and I’m thrilled to learn this spot exists.

Food is always on point. At Xaymaca they never disappoint. Highly recommend.
I’m laughing while I’m eating the oxtail & chicken curry combo. This food brings me joy. Going to eat here a lot more often.

Tried Xaymaca impulsively yesterday afternoon around 3:30. Parking lot has spaces for seven or eight cars I'd guess. No one was in sight when I walked in, but within a few seconds, a head popped out of the back to say hello. I wasn't sure if they have physical menus, but there was one on the wall. I just took a glance and randomly blurted out that I'd try the combo that lets you choose two types of chicken. Ordered half jerk chicken & half curry chicken, knowing nothing about what to expect. The staff said I could sit wherever, so I grabbed a booth/table that seats 4 or 5. There are some window seats & a few other that circle a small fish tank, but each have high seats that I find uncomfortable. Casual, almost 'hole in the wall' atmosphere, but not meant in any negative way. Just basic. Some Caribbean music playing. My full time there, two others came in for take-out, who seemed to be known customers or friends. Food arrived within five minutes. See photo for what came on the platter. I suppose some kind of warm cole slaw, which was delicious, a very tasty rice & beans in the middle, and stewed veg on the side, also good. The meat fell off the bone and was just an awesome mix of flavors. None of it was remotely spicy to me, but didn't need to be. Obviously a decent sized meal that was $21 + tax and totally worth it. I'll go back to sample some more authentic dishes that I've never had before.

I wasn’t very happy with the service here. The server didn’t seem friendly. We ordered plantain which was raw and dry when we asked the server later she said something ambiguous in the lines of we cook both raw and ripe sometimes. Didn’t get a bill, had the amount punched in the machine and brought over. Other than that the food was good. Loved the oxtail, the jerk chicken was a little dry but still good.

One of the best authentic Caribbean restaurants in Halifax!!!! Do not hesitate just go, you well thank me later. Family owned business that should be a staple in everyone’s neighbourhood. I will definitely be returning. They greeted us and welcomed us in with warmth and blessed us with an experience. I tried the chicken and chicken combo and the oxtail and curry goat combo. It’s that good!!
