You might not associate Lunenburg with Sri Lankan food, but this restaurant is an absolute must try. The food is beyond delicious and the portions are huge, two people could easily split one dish. Suni is one of the friendliest people you'll ever meet and clearly passionate about what she does. The restaurant itself has no space to sit and eat, but there is a convenient park with picnic tables right next door. I'm so glad we stopped here to eat, I would make the trip to Lunenburg just for this food!

My wife and I spent the day in Lunenberg while on a 2-week vacation through NS this Spring and push come to shove, this was probably the best meal we had on the trip.
The owner works alone out of an 8-foot wide store front, only accepts cash, and makes everything herself. The owner was also one of the friendliest people we met on the trip, and that’s saying something in Canada. We took the meal over to the small park next door and ate at a picnic table. It was the perfect setting for such a great meal.
While I am not very experienced with Sri Lankan food, it was amazingly flavorful. The special the day we were there was an amazing chicken curry over rice with a lentil stew on the side. We only got one order to split and we still couldn’t eat all of it due to the tremendous size. We also got an iced coffee which was also the best coffee I had on the trip. I went back to tell her how good the meal was and she gave me the biggest hug.
Lunenberg is a gem of a town for many reasons, but I would drive several hours just to get another meal from here. No lie.

Lamprai & Spice Cafe is hands down our favorite restaurant in Lunenburg. Very unusual to have access to home cooked Sri Lankan food (cooked with love ❤️) in such a small town. Suni is such a sweet and sunny person to deal with, and an unbelievable chef! Delicious/complex flavours and generous portions make this a must stop (2 overflowing plates and a big piece of cake are usually around $ 44). Fantastic value as we usually have leftovers for an addition 1 or 2 meals! There are always vegetarian options availablel. The desserts are also over the top - Suni's cakes are amazing, HUGE pieces/great value... I may never bake a cake again!

Best food you’ll eat. Great price for a very large meal. Deserts are melt in your mouth delicious. You will want to return for more. Owner is genuine and sincere. She talks with her customers to make sure they are all happy with their orders. Love you Suni.

Suni’s place Lamprai Spice Cafe is a local treasure. She has some of the best food in town, if not the best. Her food is authentic, home-made Sri Lankan fare — curries, butter chicken, noodles, mango lassi, and the like. It is insanely delicious. One of my personal favourite items is her chocolate cake. My wife and I look forward to this cake every week and love to get in first on a Wednesday to grab a slice before it sells out! Her portions are as generous as her lovely spirit. What an amazing place and person!!
On Thursday August 22, 2024 we ordered one Chicken dinner…mostly rice with two and 1/2 pieces of chicken thighs with rice and some baby carrots in a white sauce plus a custard dessert. The price came to $44.00 dollars….what the hell , it is take out with plastic forks and had to eat on a picnic table Disney the road.
Very very very expensive. Food was tasty but not as good as in the past.. Felt ripped off big time . Will never ever eat there again and will tell everyone I know and work with how ripped off we were!!! So disappointed as we loved it in the past. We made a special trip from Halifax and made sure we were there early. Going down hill. Sorry that to see that take out is that pricy these days!

I’d like to add another 5 star review for Lamprai because my first experience with Suni’s cooking was so impressive that after I finished eating in a park over looking an medieval cathedral, I had to walk back in and tell her in person that was the most delicious meal I’ve paid money for in years.
When I first arrived the rice cooker had just popped and she’s was delighted to inform me I was the first customer of the day and the rice is just ready.
She informed me that today she had prepared the spicy chicken, her personal favourite which she has to make once per week, “for selfish reasons” and the other was a mild cilantro dish.
I naturally went with the chefs favourite and was utterly blown away by the amount of rice, spice and love lavished into my takeout container.
What an absolute delight. So much passion, so much enthusiasm for sharing her cuisine.
This place is amazing.
