Great food and great service
I have been to Kijui's many times but after the treatment I received there 10 days ago I will never return. I ordered the Banana Bread French toast that I have had on 4 different occasions. When it arrived it was obvious that it was burnt around the edges also the maple infused blueberries that are supposed to be on the bread looked like jam they threw on it. I tasted the food, had one bite and it tasted burnt as I suspected. Told the waitress it was burnt. She took it back to the kitchen and came back saying that is how it comes. Well the previous times it did not come burnt. Waitress asked if I would like something else. I ordered the meatloaf which was ok. Not as good as the last time I ordered it. When the bill came both the meals were on the bill. I figured it was an error. I mentioned it to the server. she then went to I assume the manager who said that is our policy. So your policy is to make someone pay for a meal that was burnt and not eaten. Yes he said. He then started arguing with me telling me it was carmelized. I have had carmelized and that was not it. I told him I was not paying for a burnt meal that I did not eat and when I sent it back and ordered something else I should have been told THEIR policy. Never have I had to pay for a substandard meal before. The manager continued to insist that I had to pay for both meals. At this point he said I know you are a good customer so I will give you 50% off the meal I did not eat at this point he had walked away from the table and the surrounding tables could hear what he was saying. I informed him I would not be back and would tell everyone I know about their poor policy/ treatment. At that point he went over to our server who was no longer at the table and said something. The server then took the burnt meal that I did not eat off the menu. Restaurants want you to have a good meal but obviously here you pay for it no matter if you eat it or not even if its burnt. As I was leaving I noticed they caramelize their toast around the edges too. Burnt too.
I stopped on Feb 11, 2025 at 7:40pm an hour and 20 minutes before closing with 14 people and the manager rudely turned us away! By no means was the restaurant full. I don’t care if Kiju is the last restaurant in town I will never walk through the doors there again! Very poor customer service if you ask me!
We arrived to our hotel after a long travel day from Maine, USA. This was the only restaurant open and was attached to our hotel. We just got in before closing and I was so thankful they seated us. They had such a great attitude even though I felt horrible about the time (we gave a big tip.) I got the Four Cent Bread Skillet and loved it! If I am in the area again I will be back!

Lovely, relaxing restaurant next to The Membertou Heritage museum. Fresh local food included North Atlantic salmon and garden vegetables and greens. Service was friendly and very efficient. Decor is modern native American with wide windows and wooden tables and chairs. Very pleasant and relaxed. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We were just passing through and stopped for a bite to eat. Everything we ordered was amazing! The service was fantastic. The house was packed and all the employees were running off their feet, but still seemed to be having a good time, helping each other out. And the cherry on top was the live music. We were fortunate enough to be there when the Turnbull brothers were performing. A very memorable night. This will become a destination trip for us going forward. Highly recommend!

The service was good and fast. Atmosphere was as nice as you could expect for a conference center restaurant. Now the food... OMG. First off the bartender can't make a Manhattan to save their life. Mostly whiskey. Little to no anything else. And the fish. I got the halibut loin, while my father got the salmon. They must be terrified of food poisoning because the chef cooked the ever loving snot out of these fish. They were drier than chalk. Only saving grace was the coconut cream pie, which I think they purchased from a third party vendor.

My parents and I were staying at the nearby hotel, we ate here two nights in a row. We all enjoyed our food. Service was great, wasn't too busy on a Sunday and Monday night.

This is one of the best dining experiences I have had in Cape Breton. Food and service was excellent. A must stop if you are looking for an upscale dining experience in Sydney.

Overcooked lobster and beef tips that was nothing but fat instead of beef, very disappointing, definitely would not eat there again!
