Nice little place with good food at reasonable prices.
I normally really don't like egg rolls, but the egg rolls here were absolutely delicious. If you're an egg roll sceptic like me, I recommend giving them a try. The fried wontons were also fantastic. I found the chow mein to be a little bland, but everything else was great.
The restaurant itself seems clean and well cared for, and the lady at the counter was friendly and personable. Would definitely dine here again.

Ordered China Boat for dinner, the beef and broccoli was delicious as well as the egg rolls. When we got home we were missing things that we ordered, gave them a call and they fixed us up. However, we did find 3 long hairs within our food.
Went 2 nights in a row because the Ginger Beef was so yummy & crispy the first night ... but unfortunately soggier & chewy the next night. Food is overall good and combo meals highly affordable and best value for a hot meal (you almost get the same amount of ginger beef in a $12 combo meal as you do in $16 order of it though). Service was Wonderful. Asian decor is lacking but it's Simple. Could use a few Artificial Plants to fill Voids in the Room and add some color ?.

Food was okay but I missed the last bit of pizzazz. Somehow almost all Chinese food is the same. There are only a few special exceptions.
Showed up today at 1132am for lunch, not open. No cars. No lights. Ghost town!

It's funny how being away from the town you grew up in can affect your perception of places. For example, to me, China Boat is the "new" Chinese place in town, but it's been open for over seven years and isn't even the most recent Chinese restaurant in town to set up shop. While we've had takeout from here once before, I wanted to do the dine-in experience to try their food at its best. Yes, Chinese food fares better as delivery than some types of cuisines, but not all dishes do, and dining in will let you try a dish at the temperature and texture that it's supposed to be ingested at. We ordered a few different dishes to get a food feel for China Boat's kitchen - egg rolls, chicken fried rice, vegetable chop suey, Shanghai noodles and BBQ pork (char siu) with broccoli. They weren't crazy busy on a Sunday evening, with just a couple other tables occupied and a smattering of takeout orders, so our food came out fairly quickly. We knew what we were getting into with the classic Canadian-ized Chinese food - the egg rolls, chop suey and chicken fried rice - and they performed admirably, and having them fresh in-house meant that everything was good and crisp when it was supposed to be. The standout dishes were definitely the Shanghai noodles and BBQ pork with broccoli. The Shanghai noodles had a nice bit of wok hei to them. Loosely translating as 'breath of the wok', this is the smoky flavour that foods develop when cooked and tossed in a wok, with the high temperatures creating some char and caramelization. I always love the pleasant chew of the thick noodles in this dish, which makes it one of my 'go-to' choices. Back when I lived in Ottawa, I'd buy chunks of char siu, aka Chinese BBQ pork, from a grocery store in Chinatown to freeze and keep on hand for an easy upgrade to ramen noodles. Alas, I don't have that option in New Glasgow, so it was good to be reunited with these tasty, lightly sweet, slices of pork. Paired up with tender-crisp florets of broccoli and onion, it's a well-rounded dish. Having planned on getting way too much food, I brought some of our pandemic era horde of takeout containers to do the environment a solid and save China Boat a few cents at the same time. We had another (massive) dinner with the leftovers. The novelty of Canadian Chinese food may have disappeared decades ago as it became a regular part of the culinary landscape across the country, but there's still something to be said for restaurants like China Boat that are putting out good food at affordable prices.
Excellent food here and perfect service. The chicken fried rice was perfect, as was the sweet and sour chicken. Good chicken nuggets and fries available for littles who aren’t interested in Chinese food yet.

I usually get takeout from China Boat, and the food is always great. However, I dined in for the first time recently, and WOW! The portion sizes are sweet and the vibe is super chill. The food was cooked perfectly, even a custom dish, and the wait was not long. Beautiful space, clean bathrooms, and very cool staff. I am most certainly coming back soon! For anyone reading, I recommend ordering the lo mein, but ask for it to be crispy/overcooked. It's a big step up from the regular lo mein you get at any Can/Chinese food place.
