Best Sushi experience in Cape Breton!
I liked it better than some high-end restaurants in Ontario

We had an excellent experience. We were seated promptly, didnt wait long for our order, food was beautifully presented and delicious. Everyone was very friendly. If we ever come back to Sydney we'll definitely stop in.

Extra dab of wasabi when you ask for it you will have to pay extra what a turn off .never asked if l needed anything while eating. Also the rolls were a bit flavor less they lost my usual 20 dollars tip that may have cover the little dab in my opinion when near the ocean it should be top for sea food taste

Really not good. Sushi is sub par. The beef stir fry I had was worse. Most of the vegetable was cabbage. The beef was tough with no flavour.
Quite disappointing.

Some of the best sushi I have had anywhere. Very high quality and presentation is excellent. My favourite is the blue mountain roll which could be a dessert dish. Also for dessert you can get fried banana with green tea or mango ice cream which is one of the best desserts anywhere in Sydney. They have an outdoor patio upstairs and a private room for bookings. Food is prepared quickly. Lunch special is great value! Staff are attentive but come across as a little shy and they don’t provide water unless you ask which is a bit of a pet peeve. All around well done we have been many times and will continue to come.

Just a heads up for anyone who doesn't like north american wasabi (green horseradish), they put it on every piece of nigiri.

Highly overpriced for average sushi.
If this restaurant had competition like in Halifax or Ottawa, Toronto or anywhere, it would not survive based on these prices. Picture included is of our $10.50 seaweed salad. Since I eat sushi all the time, I was hoping price would be reflected in creative ingredients or volume of food. No, standard Seaweed salad that you can by at any Asian store in a plastic container, portion so small it could easily fit into our soy sauce dish. See picture.
Average dish like chicken teriyaki was served with sautéed vegetables. No rice. A bowl of rice was extra, bringing an average chicken teriyaki on a bed of rice and some sautéed veg to $23.50. And no, there was no gyoza, California rolls or tempura also included in that cost.
Overall, overpriced for average sushi. No competition, I guess.

The sushi is tasty, but definitely overpriced. What really ruins the experience is the owner’s poor attitude, lack of patience with children, and the fact that he was extremely rude to my friend. In an area with so few sushi options, they seem to take advantage of the lack of competition, which shows in their subpar service and unfriendly atmosphere. I would not recommend this place to my friends.

I got the veggie tempura, soft kani crab, 3 rolls. Tempura was mediocre. All the other food was atrocious. The resto is not Japanese owned, and perhaps the glowing reviews have been purchased. I don’t want to insult a family owned restaurant trying to make a livelihood in a small town but if you want even below average sushi - this is not the place. 1 star is because I didn’t get sick.

I lived and worked in Japan for six months and a restaurant like Naru always takes me back. Exceptional authentic Japanese food in Sydney, of all places.
I highly recommend dining here and plan on trying many of the menu items when working in the area.
