Found this place today when looking on line for breakfast at lunch. So glad we did! Had the eggs benny with hasselback potato. YUM! So good. The Hollandaise was delicious, eggs cooked perfectly and tasty potato. Lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Hope to return tomorrow.
The blueberry French toast was amazing đ.
Selkies was one of the first places I ate at when I landed in Sydney. I made sure it was also one of the last before I left too.
The food was great, and the staff was kind and charming. Shout out to the recommendation I got to check out the Eltuek art centre. Glad I saw the Lawren Harris painting and got to learn more about such an important part of the islands history.
If i ever find myself in Cape Breton again, I will absolutely be stopping by again.
Picked up a frozen dip. Was very tasteless. Over priced. Donât recommend. Same with there to go sandwiches
Beautiful local place, great coffee, excellent staff. Will return!
A serious gem. We arrived too early and ended up walking around for them to open and it was 100% worth the wait. Best french toast I've ever had and the farmer's breakfast was delightful.
If you havenât been to Selkies yet, youâre missing out. The food is incredible, like everything on the menu. You can tell itâs all made with care and good ingredients, and thereâs something really comforting about it. Think homemade, hearty, and full of flavour. But honestly, what makes Selkies so special is the whole staff. Cory and Kara who run it are some of the kindest, friendliest people youâll ever meet. You walk in and feel like youâre instantly part of something, like youâve just come home. Itâs the kind of place where you go for breakfast and stay for the coziness. Good food, warm hearts, and a cozy vibe that keeps you coming back.
Love it! đ definitely recommend 10/10!
Support Local!!! downtown Sydney on Charlotte Street this great small locally owned restaurant is 100% highly recommended. Breakfast today ( February 2nd, 2025) I had eggs Benny and husband had a traditional breakfast, both delicious đ and look forward 5p our next breakfast out at Selkies. we enjoy the atmosphere and the people who make this experience so worth going back. Thanks for making our Sunday morning a good one. đ đ
This cafe feels like a warm hug. I love that you choose your own mug for coffee (from a lovely selection of funny, cute, or pretty mugs). I also love that they were playing Ghibli movies on a TV in the corner.
Overall, all of the design choices are cute and delightfully kitsch, and the food is super tasty. I wish I had a Selkie's back home.

Delicious! They had gluten free bread available, which I was grateful for. Eggs, potatoes and bacon were great. The homemade jam was a nice touch.

We stopped in Sydney during our Nova Scotia road trip and decided to grab breakfast here, my wife and I ordered the eggs Benedict, and they were perfect. We love that dish and this place really hit the spot for us. We also had a lemon bar and a Oreo brownie, both of which were amazing! Even though they were quite big we ate the whole thing, just couldnât help ourselves.
We are 100% coming back whenever we are nearby Sydney in the future. Canât recommend this place enough
