I really wanted to like this place! It has nice atmosphere, and the location is good. BUT, when we went in, at least, the "barista" had clearly not been adequately trained.
Bad signs when you're looking for an espresso drink: porta filters sitting on the counter (makes them cold), pre-ground coffee in the grinder (stale), milk frothing done haphazardly, single dose porta filters in use. When I saw the previous customer's espresso come blasting out in around 10 seconds (should be 25ish), my suspicion was confirmed.
As much as I wanted to like Taproot, and I wanted to support a local business, I'm not going to pay $5.29 for a cappuccino that will, at best, be bad. The knowledge is out there, especially in 2024, so there's just no excuse for this kind of poor performance.
I sincerely hope this comment is taken as constructive criticism, because with a few hours of training for the staff all of these problems can be eliminated. I used to train baristas and manage cafes, so I know how hard it is to get good employees, but it simply must be done.

My family and I came to town for the 4th to get out of the Las Vegas heat. My husbands family own a home in town and we will occasionally come up to visit. Coming from Vegas I don’t ever have high hopes for the food in town because I have never had a good meal or even coffee. We were at the park with the kids when my husband decided to walk over and get everyone a coffee or smoothie. Let me tell you that my strawberries and cream redbull drink was the best drink I think I’ve ever had! My husband loved his latte, and kids loved their smoothie! Now I can’t wait to go back and get that amazing smoothie again! Thanks Taproot for giving me hope that their can be decent food/drinks in town

We made our way through Ely and were pretty worried about what we found. Most of the town looked run down or shut down. We found Taproot as our Savior before starting down the lonely road. The two ladies opened their doors a couple minutes early and were polite and attentive before sending us on our way.
Cute downtown coffeeshop serving a great cappuccino. Comfortable seating in a cozy atmosphere. I love that they had unsweetened almond milk too! Thank you. They also have somes sweets and ice cream. We will be back when visiting Ely again in the future.

Great lil Ice cream shop go there every weekend get me a milkshake and my daughter gets a ice cream with the cone on the side service is amazing And the prices of the ice cream is Cheap !
