Makai Island Grill

The food was okay. The Mac was good & so was the garlic edamame, but everything else was mediocre. I'm giving lower stars because they accidentally put a piece of pork in my food and I do not eat pork and never have. It was disgusting. Will most likely never come back.

The place isn't very inspiring despite the nice murals and music. But the staff is super friendly and the food was very good!

Nice fast option for Hawaiian. We had the Katsu, teriyaki chix, poke, Kuala pork, the garlic edamame, Mac salad, regular salad. All were good except the brown rice was crunchy in spots. Get the white rice! We would go back.

The young man who helped us was sagging and only wearing one glove and constantly kept pulling up his pants w the glove he was using to serve our food. We got 1/4 poke and the small dish was half way filled, the serving portion is a joke. We felt rushed and like an inconvenience for the 3 people working who seemed like they did not want to help us. I have been going here for years and I don’t plan on coming back. Staff needs serious training on cleanliness.

Nice young man CARTER helped me w usual- small katsu/mac/salad. He remembered me from past, katsu was fresh/savory - great portion, salads showed great presentation! Outstanding service CARTER!!!

I'm just surprised that they did not have Loco Moco.

I've been trying to find some good island food since moving here and was happy to find this place close to my house. I ordered the large (3 meat) plate, thinking the meat portions would be small and wanted to try their version of the 3 I chose but there was plenty of each mest and they give plenty rice. I was crazy full 1/3rd of the way through my plate. They were out of my favorite Hawaiian Sun juice (black.can lilikoi) so they stuffed the strawberry lilikoi in my bag instead of just informing me and letting me pick a different flavor. Outside of that, the only thing I didn't like was the amount of fat on the meat. I expected it in the Kalua pig since most of us use the pork butt cut on the mainland but the katsu was way too fatty. I'd be happy to pay extra for a white meat katsu or even if they just removed some fat off the thigh. The mac salad wasnt hawaiian style in my husband or my opinion but that's not a deal breaker for most people. I Didn't receive the dressing for my salad but that's common across takeout. I'll definitely be ordering here again and just stick to the stuff I liked.
