Before it was sold it had many different kinds of taffy and it was always fresh. Now that it has been sold most the taffy is gone and what they do have is old and hard. Now they have mostly candy you can get anywhere. We are local to the area and was nice to go up and get some good taffy. We'll have to find another place now. It was very disappointing when we went last week.
We’ve been to Virginia City several times and always stop and spend too much on candy…but enjoy looking at everything.
This time not so much. We now have a $60 pound bag of rock hard taffy. Maybe it was fresh last spring?
We’ve tried a bunch of flavors we picked out and are very DISAPPOINTED. Definitely not fresh and unbearable to eat.
We’ll take the free root beer barrel at the door next time and keep walking…
Fun atmosphere, with a great selection of candy.... IF you know where to look.
Would have loved to see more emphasis on the old fashioned style candies as the main attraction. It seems as though when you first walk in you are bombarded with candy you would find at any old gas station. In the far farrrr back, on mainly lower shelves is where I found my haven. Taffy in every flavor, rock candy, old style rootbeer barrels, you name it. The older gentleman working was incredibly knowledgeable and very friendly. We will certainly be back soon for the genuinely nice conversation and delicious locally made sugar free candy!

Bought a variety of taffy and they all were hard and old. I think one cracked my tooth.

The place was amazing! Just seeing the sheer amount of candy sent a rush of happiness to my inner child! It was certainly cheap, because we got half a bucket and paid only 15$ and the candies were amazing! It was great to have popular candies and their own homemade ones!

I am not a candy gal. My fiancé enjoys it though. This place is probably heaven for candy lovers lol

Be careful of the signage. Wish I had read previous reviews. Signs are for half pound. Paid $40 for a small bag of candy that I could have gotten at the dollar store. Didn't realize the signs had deceived me until after my card was charged. Told the lady I didn't realize the actual price and please cancel the sale. She just pointed at a little sign that said "All sales final". I was just buying a little candy to help support small business. Joke was on me.

My spouse and I absolutely love visiting Barrel O Candy in Virginia City. It has become one of our favorite places to indulge in some sweet treats. On our last visit, we had the pleasure of being assisted by two lovely young ladies who were incredibly helpful. We were spoilt for choice with the variety of flavor taffy candies they had to offer. It was such a delightful experience selecting different flavors and filling our bucket with a rainbow of taffy flavor candies. The friendly and knowledgeable staff only added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. Barrel of Candy has truly become a destination for us to satisfy our sweet tooth and create wonderful memories together.
Sub par candy shop trying to capitalize on the touristy draw that is Virginia City. Poor selection and the taffy selection was severely lacking. On top of that, the candy is super stale. The taffy crumbles and feels like it’s going to take a tooth crown off. Extremely expensive for what it is.
Cool store great staff real friendly
Always a delight ????
