Bartender purposely ignored us for over 10 minutes. She was leaning at the end of the bar chatting with a couple. She looked at us (also sitting at the otherwise empty bar) a few times, ignored our hand gestures, walked past us to serve a local who appeared… and chatted some more… and when finally our food (basic reheated ribs and an OK pizza) arrived I stood up walked to the end and asked to order drinks. I’m not one to make a scene, so YES it took THAT long. We finally got drinks served, with fake-sounding apologies. As a brown gay couple, we strongly felt this was how things roll in that town. Overall the town was uncomfortable. This happened before that racism incident from a neighborhood business. I didn’t cause a scene and out of spite I still left my standard tip in cash. What’s worse than a sundown town? A town when you don’t even feel welcome in daylight. We left and vowed to spread the word all over the Bay Area where our friends/family are and sierras where we live and thrive with welcoming arms….that they don’t want visitors, especially of different backgrounds in Virginia City. This is the worst review I’ve ever given, and it is deserved. I know it’s late, but we got married 2 days later and I just came across a town ad that reminded me to post this.

My chicken strips were like wood. I sent them back and got more wood. Had to ask to turn music down...couldn't talk with my out of town guests. Only one other customer in the saloon

This place is self-service, but they have a sign up that they expect you to give their waitresses a 18% tip because they work so hard. Customers wait on line and order & pay at the counter, so you are supposed to pay the tip when you order, prior to seating yourself & eating. Customers self-serve their drinks. Customers self-serve their ketchup and other condiments. Customers throwout their trash. But yes, the waitress brings you the food. This is exactly like McDonalds. They allow dogs in the restaurant, I'm surprised that is not against the health code...? I had the chicken tenders, not very good, mostly breading. There are other options nearby.

Nice people, very friendly and easy to talk with We liked the old wood and bar and tables. A lot of collectors posters on the walls A nice bandstand area. We ate early so we're not able to let you know how the music is there. Worth your time to give it a try.
Parking: We had the ribs and they were very good. Worth the money for sure 😀.
Wheelchair accessibility: Pretty easy to get in and the tables were at a good height for wheelchairs.
Happened to come on the Friday afternoon of the Harley vibrations group. Lots of friendly vendors. Red Dog Saloon is my favorite place to eat, drink and watch live bands. The ribs were cooked tender and falling off the bone. Order the variety plate and it didn't disappoint! We also bought Jello shots 😋

This place isn't THAT bad. The food and whatnot is ok. I liked the pizza well enough. But the low review comes from the overall atmosphere I felt in that town. As a sundown town, I did not feel welcome anywhere. I felt like I wasn't safe and like the locals were watching me. But again, it isn't that bad and I think that as long as you enjoy the day and find somewhere else to go after dark, you should be alright. Also, I'm not a wing person, but they looked good, too.
