My husband and I recently had the absolute pleasure of experiencing the 16-course omakase at Umami Sushi Ardsley, and it was nothing short of spectacular! From the moment we sat down, we were immersed in an evening of culinary artistry, led by the incredibly talented Chef Kai.

Though the dinner was presented in a group setting, Chef Kai managed to make it feel intimate, romantic, and deeply personal. He masterfully balanced the atmosphere. He was engaging with the group while still making each couple feel individually seen and celebrated. It felt like a private date night wrapped inside a communal experience.

Every course was a work of art! The food was fresh, inventive, and expertly prepared. The progression of flavors was thoughtful and elegant, each bite somehow topping the last. From buttery toro to melt-in-your-mouth uni, and beautifully torched wagyu, the meal showcased not only premium ingredients but also Chef Kai’s passion and precision.

What stood out even more than the extraordinary sushi was the warmth and authenticity of the experience. Chef Kai’s attention to detail, storytelling through his dishes, and genuine hospitality transformed this dinner into a memory we’ll talk about for years.

Umami Sushi Ardsley is a hidden gem, and this omakase is an absolute must for anyone who loves sushi, fine dining, or simply wants to treat themselves to something truly special.

We’ll be back very soon! Definitely telling all our friends about it!🍣💫

We had a great lunch here; definitely one of our favorite Westchester sushi spots.

Dropped by on a random weekday for lunch. The place seemed to be doing mostly lunch orders so we were the only ones there in person. They gave us a free appetizer (freshly torched fish which was delicious) and we ordered a variety of rolls which were all amazing.

The omakase looks great on paper but is not comparable to that in good sushi places in NYC. It’s as if someone tried it elsewhere and made a mediocre copy of it. Wine list is short and average. Rice temperature is not as warm as a true sushi chef would use (but not as cold as grocery store sushi). Fish quality is good but not exceptional. A 4pct extra charge for credit card use is sneaky. . Servers don’t seem to understand basic questions. But they seem to be all nice people. I wish them success but they need to improve.. I’d rather drive 30 min more and go to a more authentic place in NYC with better fish quality. Basically they are good enough to be one of the better sushi restaurants in Westchester which is a low bar.

If I could give them 10 stars I would. This is a long overdue review. We’ve been for the 16 course omakase two times and both times were fantastic. The first time was with chef Evan and he did an amazing job at unusual pairings that compliment each other very well, the second was with Kai who higlights the flavor and texture of the fish with subtle enhancements. The fish melts in your mouth. Both times were a culinary journey.

We have been to many other omakase experiences and this is hands down the most traditional. The fish and flavors change with the seasons and the courses change from seating to seating. We had a couple start their dinner after us and their dishes were completely different from ours. Truly an amazing experience.

The stuff is also extremely kind and accommodating. Our second visit Candy recognized us right away and welcomed us back. That’s so hard to find.

I can’t say enough good things. This was my dads first omakase experience and now this is the only place he wants to go to for dinner (not complaining). Truly a hidden gem.

Sushi is tiny and no utensils or soy sauce with our take out order
Ordered by phone and still had to wait almost 20 mins

We usually order from Sakura Garden in Hastings but tried Umami based on a friend’s recommendation. Yaki Soba was super bland. Both rolls were meh at best. Yellow tail and salmon sashimi was fine. Would not go back. Sticking to Sakura - which is also slightly cheaper.

Unami made for the most incredible Valentine’s Day experience! My fiancé surprised me with an omakase seating, and from start to finish, everything was perfection. The owner’s attention to detail and hospitality were truly unmatched—every course was timed beautifully, and the service was beyond exceptional. The food was great! If you're looking for delicious sushi with impeccable service, Unami is the place to go. Can’t wait to come back! 🍣✨

We were a party of four for birthday celebrations and we all enjoyed our meals. Very good quality sushi and sashimi and reasonable prices. Bento boxes were excellent, and a lot of food. Highly recommend.

Dietary restrictions: They will bring tamari, and the sushi and sashimi combo is normally gluten-free.
