This was one of the worst restaurants I've ever eaten at. I ordered wine, it tasted very old. I asked to try the other brand, equally awful. I said I didn't want the wine and asked for a mixed drink instead. No problem. We each ordered French onion soup. It was as if it was made with dried minced onion and was gelatinous in texture. Not good. I ordered an 8oz demonico while my partner ordered the prime rib. Both were poorly seasoned, we make better steaks at home. I was shocked to see the bill of $115! They made me pay for the wine I didn't drink and, well it was just am awful meal. Not to mention it wasn't a very clean restaurant. I suggest finding a franchise steakhouse in lieu of this disaster.

There has been so much hype for this place over the years and I wanted so badly to love it but I just don’t get it. I love a local spot, try to support only local restaurants as much as possible, but this just confused me. Why does everyone say it is so good? Is it just nostalgia? You enter into a lively bar area. Looks like any townie bar. Host was lovely - she seated us quickly and was very nice.Decor is dark, low ceilings and looks like it was done decorated by someone’s grandmother once and never touched again. I suppose it’s nostalgia for a moment in time - basement club feel maybe - but it all looks a bit run down. Our server was fine but kind of rushed and we felt like he didn’t listen to us.Menu is quite small but I love a place that knows what they do well- the problem is, it wasn’t done well.French onion soup is…not French onion soup and had a really weird texture and not much flavor. The cheese was in the soup not just on top and it was more like Campbells golden onion soup. It tasted like the onions weren’t cooked down enough.Steak temp was as requested but had no flavor. They are called The Beef but the beef wasn’t anything special.Chicken was swimming in butter and the plates were greasy. Everything needed salt or was super salty. Cocktails were mediocre. The cost was well over $100 for 2 people and we wished that we were happier considering the cost. It just all feels dated in a bad way. I love old school but it has to taste good!Kinda wish we had just gone across the street for good pizza at Paul & Son’s.Likely won’t be back.

I came to The Beef with a coworker on a work trip and found it via Google search. It was an excellent choice! The service was fantastic, food was great, and the pricing was surprisingly affordable. It's a perfect spot for business travelers keeping an eye on their budgets. We had the 6oz filet mignon and the baked haddock. The only "con" was a 20 minute wait while we could see open tables. That was a bit confusing, but we had a beer in the bar area while we waited. Not an inconvenience.Parking: Parking is behind the building and is a very small lot. It seems to be shared among surrounding businesses. There is also street parking nearby.

Cute family oriented vibe in a residential neighborhood. The food was OK but not more.Steak tacos: nicely seasoned with lots of coleslaw salad.French Onion Soup: not great. Nothing like the traditional one. It’s more like vegetable soup with a slice of melted cheese on a piece of bread.Salmon: classic. Good. Cooked well.

I have been coming to this restaurant for decades. When I think of Prime Rib, this is the place that comes to mind. An absolute institution and treasure on the West Side. While I no longer live in the area, I try to make a trip here every time I am in town. Food and service are great (one of the best bartenders around). Great neighborhood crowd.Parking: Small lot, but plenty of on street parking nearby.Wheelchair accessibility: Parking and seating accessible

Love this neighborhood joint. The food is more than decent, and I actually like that the menu isn’t CVS receipt length—it shows they know what they’re doing, in my opinion. They get pretty busy and sometimes can seem short staffed, so if you have something planned afterwards, go early! Other than that, I’ve only had super pleasant waitresses & bartenders, no complaints there. Definitely recommend it if you’re looking to feel like you’re on an episode of Cheers!, a show I’ve never seen.
