We recently went to the Lincklaen House Restaurant for an early dinner and although we called the day before to find out if we needed reservations, the hostess did not tell us that the main restaurant was booked. When we arrived, the hostess explained that the main restaurant was holding a private party. She acted stressed and inconvenienced by our appearance. She told us at the door that we would have to eat in the Seven Stone Steps Tavern in the basement of the establishment or she could put us in a location she called the "Atrium" which was basically a cold and empty passageway. We agreed to remain even though one of our party is advanced in years and uses a cane. We looked at the atrium's solitary table that was not even set for use and took the basement option. When I arrived below ahead of our party to claim a table big enough for five, a grumpy employee informed me that we were not allowed to sit at a table until our entire party was present. I explained that my 94 year old father in law was slowly descending the steps and that we were indeed all present. After these two unfriendly initial contacts, we felt unwelcome. However things improved afterward. Our server was excellent, which is why I gave five stars for service and the barkeep came to our table to help us take a picture to mark the occasion. The food was not bad. Two of us got the steak option which was incredibly small but of good quality. My husband got the shepherds pie which he liked. My father in law got the scallop risotto which was so bad that he could not eat it. My son got the fish and chips, he ate it all but as an onlooker, I noticed the chips were burned.Just a comment on the fact that when people go out for a meal on the weekend, they are trying to celebrate something whether it is another day or an event. When staff approach, especially a hostess, they should be welcoming, kind and above all helpful. A hostess's job is to show the customers to their table and to make sure they are well settled before leaving them. The hostess at the Lincklaen pointed us to the "Atrium" but then did not show us exactly where it was. My husband had to go back to find her to verify that the abandoned nook she indicated was in fact the Atrium. A restauranteur should want people to come away thinking positive thoughts about the ambiance and food, not talking about how the grumpy hostess abandoned us.

Consistently good food is served! My Fettuccine Alfredo with Blackened Chicken breast was outstanding. The popovers and seasoned butter are an added treat for the hot bread start of the meal.

I don't love everything on the menu but their utica greens are delicious (super spicy) and I also enjoy the gouda fondue. Sitting at a table, the servers seem unhappy and bothered most time. Sitting at the bar is the way to go for a pleasant experience.

Best food in unique and cozy setting. Service (Paula) great! Menue options provide something for every pallet. Our annual trip to the area. A MUST every time! Cheers!

Traveling for business and stopped by for dinner on Tuesday night. Ordered small Ceasar salad, breaded calamari and chicken Francese. Service was good but salad was embarrassingly small, calamari was tough, dry with too much breading and chicken was both small and bland. Aside from salad, nothing had much flavor. Normally I don't use salt/pepper when I go out but this was so tasteless I had to liven it up somehow.

Quite possibly the worst Beef on Wek in NY. Bun was a salted hamburger bun ( not a kummelwick roll ) adorned with about 2 oz of beef . Homemade chips were burnt. Don’t waste your money

While visiting the area; we decided to try it out. We were greeted and seated quickly. It's cute, quaint and comfy. our server was friendly and attentive. My husbands side salad was surprisingly on the smaller than expected side. But, he said it tasted good. He enjoyed his burger and my open face turkey reuben was fine. The bread was very soggy, so I ate the turkey and sauerkraut. The chips that come along with it were very good. We shared a flourless chocolate cake, which although small, it was enough. We would try it again, but perhaps order differently.

Oh yeah, this place was great! In town for a wedding and stopped here for lunch. Had a Guinness and a black bean quinoa salad... So so good! Service was great and was very enjoyable to eat in such an historic place. Definitely recommend.
