We had dinner in the lounge. It was very crowded but the food was good and the service was good as well,
Hands down the best restaurant in the North Country.
Hands down the best restaurant in the North Country.
So good! Fresh Halibut! We only ate in the restaurant but it was so good!
This Inn is amazing! It's located less than a mile from downtown. The rooms are cute & clean with a private back porch. The bathroom is set up to accommodate older & handicap people with hand rails near the toilet & in the shower. BATHROOM BONUS is a heat lamp in the center of the room.
The restaurant is just as amazing. A father & son duo cook the food. They are world travelers with training as excellent chefs. The dinner special from 5-6 p.m. is fantastic. We spent $100 for 2 with a glass of wine, bread, an appetizer, salad & main course each! The food was delicious & just as we finished one course, the next was being put down. I highly recommend staying here if you are in Clayton!
I was disappointed in my first trip to the Clipper Inn. We had a party of six. We sat outside which had no ambience, just a big dirty tent. Piles of dirty plates were piled next to our table. And the noice level was unbearable. The food was decent but definitely did not live up to the hype or was not what I would consider fine dining. Some food came out cold and was inedible. The waitress was completely indifferent when we mentioned it. For the price, I would not go back and I would not recommend.
We were really looking forward to capping off our Clayton trip with a visit to the iconic restaurant. We had reservations which was a must!! This place is large and it was packed. We were seated right away when we arrived, however this is where it went down hill. We waited 35 minutes at our table and our drink order was not even taken. We are patient and not in a hurry but we finally went up to the host and asked if we had a waitress. She was kinda huffy but we explained we had been here a very long time. Finally we got the bread guy and he had our waitress come over. She apologized and we ordered drinks and our meal right away. I ordered the Fresh Halibut, my husband the cod oscar and our friends had the chicken cordon blu and the scallops. We all thought the food was really good. The halibut was actually fresh and it was a nice size piece cooked perfect. The waitress gave us dessert for the long wait, they were all just average, we had the napoleon, key lime pie, chocolate mousse and creme brûlée. When our checks came they were not correct, so we had to flag her over again. We did have a nice meal and while they did correct there mistakes the service and lack of attention to details was poor here
We made reservations for our 51st anniversary this past September 13th. We were greeted with friendly smiles. The food was delicious and our waitress and waiter were friendly.
Loved it been going there for decades! Love the chef Clayton!
My wife and I are so glad that we visited Clipper Inn for dinner! Everything from the service, the bread, the salads, and the entrees were 5 stars. My wife ordered a cashew coconut curry style chicken and I ordered the blackened chicken alfredo. It was hands down the BEST pasta I have ever had. Both dishes were delicious. Every bite was was rich and flavorful, but never overpowering. We know where to go for dinner next time we are in the area!

A comedy of errors: teenagers who weren’t our server brought out all the courses in rapid succession, and in the wrong order. Half the meal went cold and uneaten. Very disappointing. The server comped the appetizer.
We celebrated our anniversary in Clayton on 9/2 and had a great day in town... We were able to ck in to the Inn early and our room was very clean... We enjoyed a delicious dinner as well... Staff were very friendly... Ty!
Delicious food and very nice atmosphere! Fine dining at a reasonable price.
Food never disappoints We had the early bird spe cials and they were delicious. Service was not as good as previous visits. Seemed like maybe they were short staffed .
Had reservations for 730pm and we were seated promptly and greeted warmly. It was a chilly night but we sat on the patio and it was perfect. Plenty of heaters! We had the steamers in the sherry and garlic for appetizer and it was delicious. Make sure you save some of the warm, crusty bread to dip in the sauce! Our meals came with a salad which was just the right size and had a nice variety of vegetables with spring lettuce. Plus they chopped it nicely...hate when you are served giant chunks of iceberg lettuce! I had the lemon seafood pasta special and my husband had the halibut. Both were generous servings and perfectly prepared and plated. My pasta was just the right al dente..only negative was I would have liked a little more seafood. The shrimp were tasty but small. Dessert was key lime pie which had the traditional graham cracker toasted coconut crust and had the right amount of tart lime. Plus it came with extra whipped cream. The service was exceptional! Just the right amount of time between courses and always attentive on our beverages. Miles and Amber were fantastic and we will definitely be back again!
