I was so pleasantly surprised last night with my veal dinner! This is the best veal I have had outside of New York City. I am usually disappointed ordering any veal dish but last night just blew me away with how tender and delicious and wonderfully prepared was my veal. I can't wait to come back!

I have to say- in the almost 20 years of living in the Hudson Valley, the Cantebury Brook Inn has become by far our go-to restaurant. While Cornwall has always been known for quality eateries and well run establishments It still can be easy to take this long-time fixture for granted. There are new kids on the block all the time - we stray outside the 534 but sometimes the noise and flash is just a flashy lure., a mere distraction. Eventually they fail to impress enough. True-there can be a lot of kinks to work out but customers can be patient-to a point- but when there’s failure to thrive it can become difficult to get excited about going out for dinner. From this juncture it’s a short walk to mediocrity and expectations will unfortunately require adjusting.
Eventually, sometimes by chance someone will suggest The Canterbury Brook Inn or we per chance stroll by the quaint edifice that we pass dozens of times a day. With a pang of guilt we’re aware of how much we took them for granted.
We go in once more and it only takes a quick glance at the menu that we slowly come to an epiphany-Why have we wasted time anywhere else? Sure a good meal can be had at many places but often it’s by happenstance - you take a chance and hope for the best. Or it can be fulfilling yet fail to induce a “crave”, a feeling of wow. Wait, Can cuisine wow?
At CBI the answer is to that is definitely yes and furthermore it is yes on a consistent basis - like yes every-single-time. The attention to meal design, the selection of only the very best ingredients, meal preparation and dish creation, culminating with the delectable final presentation. Each step is deliberately performed to ensure perfection- whether it’s a Tuesday or a Saturday or whether it’s the first order of the evening or the last. It’s the reliability factor that’s enabled CBI to be such a success for so many years. And it is this very success that has attracted other dedicated proprietors this area.
Hans is obviously a master culinary artist who demands the best - in his ingredients, in his chefs, his staff and most importantly in himself. If he’s not directly hands on he’s definitely overseeing everything that comes out of his kitchen. Everything is fresh, concocted at the time of order-crafted then and there as opposed to heated up leftovers, so each and every dish is consistent, dependable and delicious. When so many places in nearby areas seem to look for excuses to justify substandard service and mediocre dishes, it’s refreshing to have such quality eateries right here in our own back yards. Excellence begets excellence- call it the halo effect. Exceeding customer expectations also places a friendly challenge to other eateries in the 534. With the track record that CBI has it is apparent that they have set the bar high for new businesses. With a reputation for excellence within the industry the message is clear that only the best in the business should even think about setting up shop here. Fortunately that seems to have occurred as we now have a handful of excellent establishments each one with their own unique style - and that’s a win-win for everyone
In short I suppose I could have just stated that going out for a meal at CBI is truly a treat and culinary experience, leaving you surprised at how delicious food can be. Expecting excellence shouldn’t be unreasonable nor a luxury - lucky for us that excellence still matters very much to the proprietors and staff at Cantebury Brook Inn

thanksgiving dinner. bread rolls almost inedible. dry, hard. kitchen sink stuffing! hard to identify what was in it! hello chef! stuffing is all about butter, butter, onions & sage & bread. don't reinvent it. yours was disgusting. don't get me started on the escargot...unrecognizable except obviously the snails came out of a tin. even so, if cooked correctly they might have been ok. but you did not even use butter...what was that? i'm no chef and i could do a lot better. shame. as for the stuffing? bet you could not even eat that mess yourself.

Great atmosphere and service from the wait staff. Nice comfortable dining room, slightly elegant and alot cozy. Prices on a weeknight was very good. Had the Hungarian Goulash, stuffed pastry chicken, and butternut sage ravioli. Drinks were also good. Dessert was subpar but still finished the dinner well. Parking is good despite construction bridge project going on in the neighborhood. Will definitely be back and recommend to others.

Boomer heaven! Get ready to dine with the best of the local grey community. But make no mistake, this is proper Swiss cuisine. The rosti is absolutely spectacular.

My wife, daughter (vegetarian) and I had dinner. Drinks were a good starter. Our salads were perfect and our entrees were well prepared and seasoned. Deserts were all excellent. Our first time here and we all agreed we would definitely come back.
Vegetarian options: More options would be great.

We were there for a family surprise party. It was a perfect room for 40 people or more. Food was delicious and the waitress took excellent care of all of us. Coconut shrimp and chicken cordon blue was the best we've ever tasted.
