Listen, I’m Haitian and have been craving Tom-tom but the closest Haitian restaurant to me only sells it once a week. So here I am late one night on TikTok scrolling and I’m seeing fufu all over the place. When I found this place, I left work, sat in traffic to go get the fufu and sat in another round of traffic to get home. The only thing I’m upset about is the fact that I was in traffic for so long before I could get home. Food was DELICIOUS 🤤 😋

I have never tried African Cuisine, so I decided to Uber a few things on the menu. Please note- I'm not able to compare the meal as it's the first time I'm having it.
I ordered the Egusi and pounded yam. I ordered the peppered goat and the chicken meal with rice and vegetables.
Everything was very flavorful. I enjoyed the yam with the egusi. I added the peppered goat to spice it up a bit. The peppered goat was extremely spicy (painfully spicy). My husband ate the chicken and the rice meal. I looked at his plate, and he ate the entire meal. It was his first time as well.
The food was delicious. I wished I had ordered more yams, but the one piece they sent with the meal was sufficient. Everyone should try this restaurant even once. Support them, especially in their local communities. It's nice to have such a variety of restaurants in NY- right at our fingertips. How lucky are we?

Bad customer service and overpriced for portion size
As a proud Ghanaian, I wanted to see if Mama Philo's would live up to the hype as the only restaurant on Long Island focused on African cuisine. I was absolutely blown away!!
The food was flavorful and made as if my mom was preparing a home-cooked meal. I tried the Egusi soup with chicken while my sister had the Pepper soup with goat meat and we were left wanting seconds. The puff-puff was made to perfection and the pounded yam I was given for my Egusi soup was a good portion.
I would have liked the jollof to have a bit more spice, but I realize that's a personal preference. All in all, this place is a 5/5 and a must-try if you are in the area. The staff is also very welcoming.
Mama Philo's gets busy, but the food quality remains constant. I will definitely be back in the near future--keep up the great work!

I'm just amazed by not knowing that less than a 10 minute drive away from my home, "lies a jewel" Mama Philo's African Cuisine.
I Googled African food near me because I didn't feel good enough to travel to BK to my normal African Restaurant, but I was craving egusi, like someone who is pregnant which I am not! So, I called 1st before I ubered it and asked a few questions, the lady was so kind, and answered my questions which lefted a smile on my face. I should have taken a pictures but I forgot 🙃 I had my egusi and pounded yam. It was so good. I am a Jamaican American who is in love with the Motherland, her cultures and Foods. I'll be visiting Mama Philo's Restaurant in person next time. Thank you so much for being in my backyard in Elmont... truly unbelievable
It was delicious 😋

First time I ordered here, jollof rice was SALTY, I only got 3 pieces of HARD goat meat, and one SMALL piece of fish all SALTY, I also goat pepper soup SALTY AF BUT TENDER, I tried meat pie and the filling had absolutely NO taste,
I WONT RECOMMEND NONE AFRICAN PEOPLE TO TRY THIS PLACE.

I ordered their (egusi with chicken and pounded yam) through Uber eats. In the notes I specifically said do not make it spicy. Egusi was extremely spicy. I feel like restaurants should not make food spicy because you don’t know people spice tolerance level. Only if it’s requested should it be spicy. Second there was two big pieces of chicken but barely any stew. Thirdly chicken was not seasoned it was just white(and it had a taste of chicken that was just boiled and thrown in a sauce). I tried to ignore the one, two bad reviews but I have had not a pleasant experience, especially as it being my first time ordering from this establishment and it’s definitely my last. I do not recommended this place at all!…….. F.Y.I MICHAEL TYSON IS NOT A SPAM ACCOUNT (responding to owners reply) he is my husband and I accidentally used his account to respond to your comment in regards to my review. I’ve attached the same picture that was uploaded from his google account. To say it’s a scam to get people to believe you is crazy. My point has been proven no one and I mean NO ONE SHOULD SUPPORT THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!! The picture shows that the chicken looks raw (that is the egusi on it that makes it look like something) it was not grilled neither seasoned like this owner has mentioned!

This is me responding to the owner. No where in the picture does it shows seasoned or “grilled” chicken…. That was plain white chicken. And I’ve been to many African restaurants and the food was never spicy unless requested. So that’s not an excuse. Thirdly I specifically wrote in my notes when ordering through Uber eats that I DO NOT WANT SPICY AT ALL, so if you knew your food was “a little spicy, because that’s how you cook” then someone should’ve called and told me this and asked if I still want to go through with the order… or better yet should’ve just cancelled the whole order oppose to accepting it just to make some money…. A simple apology would’ve been highly appreciated as the owner oppose to being defensive and trying to downplay my comment…. Multiple people left bad reviews I’m just another one added to the list….

Customer Service is very horrible, and that young lady there right now is super rude to customers. In Mama Philo , the customer is not the king. Delay in services also.
