I’ve been a regular customer at Fountain Diner and always order the same thing — the California Panini. But this last visit was terrible. The bread and chicken were so hard they were nearly inedible. It was clear the food wasn’t fresh and nowhere near the usual quality. I called right away and was told I’d be credited on my credit card, but the refund never came. I followed up twice the next day. When I finally spoke to the owner, Philip, instead of apologizing, he raised his voice at me and was extremely unprofessional. He said he would “take care of it,” but still nothing has been done. After how I was treated, I won’t be returning — and I wouldn’t recommend Fountain Diner to anyone. Bad food and even worse customer service.

We were excited to try this place, as people were sharing it has a lot of Gluten-Free options and they certianly do! It was refreshing to see that on the menu, you can have pancakes, french toast, wraps, sandwiches, etc! But unfortunately, I feel like I needed to come and leave a review here, something I wish I had read about ahead of time.

My husband and I each had a sausage and cheese omlette with potatoes and GF toast. We also shared a stack of the GF pancakes. Our total was over $70!!!! I was actually shocked when I saw that, as the menu prices lead you to think your total would be more normal, maybe $45-$50, taking into consideration GF items (which is still high for breakfast!) The food was mediocre at best, nothing special as far as taste/quality or portions. We can go to spots in the same area, with way better service, bigger portions, more courses, less patronage AND be accommodated with good quality GF items (some made in house with thoughtful ingredients!) for the same or less in total!!

We were a group of 5. I asked the waiter if my husband and I could be on a separate check (so as not to burden my friends with our GF item subs) and he said they do that all at the front desk at the end when you go up to pay...THE ATTITUDE of the lady who was at the desk later on was actually crazy, I laughed afterward thinking about her in the service industry. She def has boss lady energy, but you cannot make kind, mild, smily, easygoing people feel SO UNCOMFORTABLE when they are paying over $70 for a lame breakfast. AND she was very animated about adding the 18% tip to each of our checks since we were splitting from the group of 5. We work so hard for our money, and do not eat out often, to think were forced to pay an 18% tip (which normally we have no problem with!) when someone is being nasty, rolling her eyes, shaking her head, refusing to make eye contact, to us AS she's adding it to the checks is so sad. There is NO WAY that is the first time she has to split a check like that. I left so disappointed and felt robbed. Never going back and gladly sharing my experience when people talk about it.

Went in for a late morning breakfast, I was seated right away. I waited about seven minutes for somebody to come over and take my order. My waiter checked on me once that was it. I was finished eating and I'm sitting there again for a long period of time waiting for my check. I probably could've gotten up and walked out without paying. Finally one of the weight staff came over and asked if I wanted anything else mind you he was not my waiter. I said no just sitting here waiting for my check and he's the one who brought me my check. I saw my waiter standing behind the counter doing nothing. I will not be going back to service sucked.

So disappointed with this staple that I have frequented for 3 decades. They have great gluten free options and my boyfriend has Celiac, however, we won't be returning. We had lunch there yesterday asked asked our waiter if we could substitute items on our turkey wraps, He said sure and I added avocado and bacon and my boyfriend added cheese bacon and avocado to his and asked for a gluten free wrap. We had two coffees and two wraps and received a bill for over $70. Every single item added was up-charged and we were not told about this in advance. The diner right down central in Scarsdale The Eldorado Diner has the same wrap that I have ordered with avocado and bacon called the turkey spring wrap for $16.25 and it is a far superior wrap.
I decided to call the Fountain Diner today and speak to the owner thinking for some reason he would like to retain the patronage of someone who had been frequenting his establishment for so long. He was unapologetic and reported that i can't expect the cost for cranberry sauce to be the same as avocado and bacon. I then said to him, so they additional items added $15 to my cost? I even told him that I get the same wrap at the Eldorado in Scarsdale for $16.25. He became very angry that i compared his diner to another. Maybe he felt ashamed about ripping off his customers when he was confronted with the scam going on at his Diner. He added that i should have asked the waiter, if adding item would increase the cost however we did ask if we could change items, and the waiter said yes and did not educate us about the increase in cost. So he expects the customers to pick up the slack for his poorly trained staff.
I called the Eldorado diner in scarsdale and asked if they have gluten free wraps. They do, so we will not return to a place where the owner does not respect their their long standing customers.

OK, but sort of blah. Food was not great, and the server seemed a bit put out to have to be bothered with waiting on us.

Really solid, fast, friendly diner with food that’s a cut above. For example - when you ask for potato chips you get homemade, fresh fried, paper thin, hand cut crisps that are to die for. If Michelin ever decides to do diners, this little detail would get them their star.
