Bringing the worst aspects of Manhattan to upstate. Maitre d' has a real chip on his shoulder and what seems like a visceral disdain for couples with children even on a quiet Sunday afternoon.. You can tell they're going for a kind of elevated German menu but the execution is a little off. The $36 mix grill is $4 of sausage and the same sauerkraut and potato salad you just ordered for sides and appetizers. The pretzel is served hard and cold, doesn't seem to be pretzel dough, unsalted, and with a strange and pungent cheese spread. Very odd.The server was lovely and unfortunately the experience was just off to a bad start from the host who I gather is also a part-owner or otherwise involved in managing the place. Definitely a place where separation of duties would do wonders. Skip it if you're looking for a cozy upstate German restaurant, or check it out if you can't get enough of the ushered, needlessly brusque welcome you get at lunch in midtown.Kid-friendliness: Will tolerate your kid but will call you a party of 3 if you're a couple with a baby.

Didn’t let us in with our service dog and demanded to know what my disability was. Very rude. Place was totally empty.

This place is a gem… we have been going to this restaurant for 7 years (ever since we moved to the area) and each time we thank our lucky stars! The owners take great pride in the food they present, and are there all the time. The staff is consistent, which is always an indication of a well managed restaurant. The staff is also lovely, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The setting, location, and attention to detail is superb. Our 2 children love this restaurant, and there are very child friendly food options on the menu, that also deliver a well balanced meal (not junk food). This is a place to be cherished.Vegetarian options: There is always a vegetarian option on the menu.Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly, considering it is fine dining.

This has some great food and beautiful views. The owners were present during the dining hours.

Went there for the first time and wasn't impressed. The service was good and the staff were friendly but the quality of the food needs definitely improvement. I understand that groceries are expensive but a salmon croquette should taste a little bit like salmon and a jaeger schnitzel shouldn't be dried inside and basically have no flavor. Since it was served on the dry side I asked for more gravy and was told it was $8 for gravy. There were 4 of us dining and we each had a couple of alcohol beverages as well as apps yet they didn't allow for extra gravy? I'm calling this place a one and done. They lost my return business for $8.

Stopped here on our way through town as we were craving German cuisine. Food was fresh and delicious. Red Cabbage was some of the best I have had. Would go back if in town again!

I just got back from the Gunk house. I had a very rude incident with the host Dirk and a lady who works the bakery counter. To make things worse: is that the Hungry goulash was cooked not the well. It seems that they got it out of an old tin can. Don’t wast your time go to the mountain brauhaus. Ps there hungry goulash was very bland.

Delicious German food with a modern flair. We are never disappointed! Friendly host and servers. Heat little farmhouse with an amazing view!

The four of us had a very nice early dinner yesterday. The portions were very generous. I had the German short ribs with red cabbage. The meat was melt in your mouth tender. Two in our group ordered the Wiener schnitzel and spaetzle and the serving size left enough for another meal. Good value & great service. A charming building with nice views of the mountains. We'll be back when we're back in the area for sure.

Always a good time here. Meals are delicious and the menu changes every now and then but not enough to make you feel as though the place has been sold. The owners run a tight ship here. Servers are SUPER ! Every server I’ve had the pleasure of being served by has been wonderful!Parking: Just a big, open unsaved hard-packed gravel lot with ample room, but no designated parking spaces delineated with actual markings.Wheelchair accessibility: There’s a sturdy ramp on the side entrance.

Went here years ago, didn't impress us. Received a gift card so we went again. Limited wine and beer offerings. We got there right at opening so it was not busy at all. Server was attentive and answered questions. We ordered stuffed mushrooms that were bland and a bit dry. No bread so we ordered a pretzel with mustard that was really a pretzel roll. 3 of us had the slow cooked beef ribs and 1 had monkfish special. None of us were impressed what the preparation, or quality. The monkfish was dry and tasteless. The ribs were ok but the food was not hot. As it was not busy there was no reason for anything to be even lukewarm. Not impressed, wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend. A disappointment. Don't bother .
