Review: The Deepest Dish - Ithaca NYThis is probably the best slice you will find in Ithaca NY! If you know Ithaca, then you know it is Pizza challenged. There are plenty of places in Ithaca that sell Pizza, and also hummus. I’m sorry, but the two don’t mix. Pizza is a mentality, a passion, and an art. Every time I had ordered a pizza from a Halal restaurant, it was in poor quality, and didn’t taste like true pizza. This was my first try at The Deepest Dish Restaurant; I ordered two pizzas a week apart, the first was better than the second. The first pizza was a Siciallian pie, with extra cheese, and parmesan cheese to top it off. The dough was baked perfectly, not doughy, not dry, but not very flavorful. The second pie was a deep dish with double extra cheese. It was basically the same pie as the Sicillian, but the dough was a bit too dry for my liking. If dough is undercooked, or overcooked, there is no going back. No undo button for Pizza..The next day… I love next day pizza, cold from the fridge, or reheated in an oven (Never a microwave)! The Sicillian held up quite well with good flavor, but the deep dish had crumbly dough because it was too dry. I just snacked on the cheese and tossed the rest out..The Pizza Guys 0-10 scale of Pizza excellence:Dough - I give the dough a “5”, and that’s only because it lacks any kind of real flavor. Pizza dough needs to age at least three days, and not more than five days. Pair that with superior ingredients, and you have a good base for great pizza. The Deepest Dish is close to hitting a good mark, but they need to pay more attention to the details.Sauce - I give the sauce a “3” because it was too acidic, and biting. The sauce is the liaison between the dough and the cheese. It needs to bring the flavors together. A great sauce is made from scratch, not service pack cans from Hunts or others, and the sauce should be well balanced in flavor.Cheese - I give the cheese a “5”. There wasn’t that nice mozzarella flavor that you can get with the better manufacturers. I love places that use local cheese, and freshly grated. These pies didn’t have that subtle, milky flavor. It wasn’t terrible, so that’s a good thing.Total Pizza Guy score: “4.5” Pizza Points overall, and that’s a coast to coast Pizza comparison! ...but in Ithaca, it’s probably a 6 or 7 compared to the local Pizza scene.Try it, and tell me what you think?
I ordered tiramisu and molten lava cake with ice cream. Sadly, it arrived after 2 hrs with melted ice cream and cold / hardened lava cake. Moreover, I found the items to be costly as per the portions provided. My first experience didn’t go well and I think I wouldn’t be ordering from here again.
