Visited Ithaca from Rochester to catch the Wallflowers concert. We had dinner at Maxie's before the show. The food was excellent! The fried green tomatoes were a hit. The fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and collard greens was out of this world. We also ordered a trout dish which was a daily special that came with a cheddar filled potato cake and it was so good! Definitely worth a visit.

Excellent fish restaurant, offers a wide range of options, really generous portions, we couldn't finish them. Excellent Blackened Catfish, informal place, quick and friendly service.

Absolutely fantastic. Service was lovely and the food arrived quickly. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS! It was heavenly. The cornbread is so good. Our server was kind and in a good mood, and the atmosphere was comfortable.

Parking: Sort of strange parking but ultimately not difficult

Gumbo had a slight burnt taste, most waitress were nice. However, one of them was a bit rude and threw down our utensils. Also a very squished restaurant Overall a decent experience.

“A very bold American Southern-style seafood restaurant.”

Mid-August is a really busy time in Ithaca.
This is because there are Move-Ins at Cornell University and Ithaca College.
Numerous students are boarding and moving into the dormitory, and their families are also crowded.
As a result, it is difficult to find a table at most restaurants in the downtown area.

I went to a restaurant to eat fresh oysters, but the wait was already over, so this was the next best option.
There are two places in Ithaca where you can get fresh oysters. You can think of it as one of the two options, and it takes about 20 minutes on foot from downtown.

Although it is located in a slightly secluded area, unlike the neighborhood atmosphere, this house is overflowing with customers.
The server who served us was also full of energy and vitality, which matched the atmosphere of the restaurant, but strangely enough, the food had a very tough and strong charm.

The oyster was ordinary, but fresh and drinkable. What I liked most was that they ground up the whole horseradish and gave it the pulp.
It is not a watery horseradish sauce, but has a dry taste like spicy wasabi or radish, so it goes well with juicy oysters.

The dishes are very Southern style.
So you can eat southern American seafood such as gumbo, crab cakes, and blackened fish.

Gumbo, a thick stew, is filled with sausage and chicken and served with rice.
It has a rustic, rural feel, but it also has its charm.

Not only does the crab cake look good, but the plating is also really haha.
I experienced graffiti sourcing, which is difficult to consider as restaurant plating.
In addition, since it was a deep-fried crab cake and had been cooked for a long time, the batter was very hard, so I didn't really feel the charm of the crab cake.

The blackened fish was grilled catfish, but the earthy smell was gone so it wasn't easy to eat.

In summary, it has a very tough style, so the likes and dislikes seem to be quite strong, and it doesn't have a sophisticate feel, but if you like this kind of lively atmosphere, it wouldn't be a bad idea to visit.

PS: Instead, the coleslaw at this house was amazing.

Delicious seafood at a very nice establishment with fresh food and great service. The oysters were delicious and relatively affordable for fresh caught at 3.50/ea. We tried the special of the day which was a Barramondi and the Fried shrimp special, both of which were delicious and generous portions. A great vibe with awesome seafood and plenty of options to choose from, worth checking out for sure.

I'm going to be honest. The boarded up top window of the building had me concerned, but they had great reviews. Bar area is the nicest part if the restaurant. Dining area and outdoor dining less formal. Service was outstanding and food amazing. Would absolutely go back. My husband said the seafood was super fresh and best shrimp and grits he ever had.
