Banfi is a hidden gem on the Cornell Campus. While cost could be prohibitive to some, the food is exceptional and worth the splurge. I would highly recommend Banfi as a "must visit" stop when on Campus or visiting Ithaca.
Taverna Banfi is a Tuscan-inspired restaurant with wonderful food and exceptional service. I had high expectations since many Cornellians recommended it, and overall it delivered. The Crab Cake, Spinach and Stracciatella Salad, and New York Strip were excellent. The Jurgielewicz Duck Breast, however, was a bit dry and under-marinated, and the Grilled Octopus appetizer was slightly too salty. Taverna Banfi is a must visit on our every trip, however it disappointed us last night for dinner. The server did not show up for a long time after we were seated and was a bit lacking on asking if we were ready to order, etc. But she was very nice. The food unfortunately was extremely salty. There were clumps of sea salt sprinkled over everything from the ricotta crostini to pasta pesto to halibut entree. We did not want to be rude, so did not send back any of the dishes but...
