Athena Gyro Greek Taverna

Been goin for years. Good experiences with owner George & staff, But since he’s retired the place has suffered. Went in recently to pick up a gyro, and the woman at the counter, who looks and sounds like she’s been smoking since the 50’s, decided it was a good idea to make a huge deal out of me taking more than one mint out of the mint bowl by the register. Not kidding! I took a whopping 5. “That’s greedy. Sir you’re greedy!” she said. This from the woman that just charged me $14 for a gyro plus an upcharge for using a CC. I told her I’d gladly go buy a bag of mints to replenish their precious stash since it probably cost 3 bucks for 500 mints. When a coworker chimed in to defend her ridiculous adolescent concern over a mint I said I’m done with this place! Their Priorities are wonky!!

I've wanted to visit this place for years. It was absolutely worth the wait. Great food, great service, and respectable prices. I ordered a few meals to go. Pistitsio(sp?), traditional gyro, and spanikopita.

Tremendously disappointed. It’s always been a delicious experience in the past. We got soggy salad, processed chicken on the gyros and soggy Baclava that had a syrup not honey… we asked for extra tzatziki sauce on the side and didn’t get it and one gyro had zero sauce all together.

The food is so delicious and the portions are huge. Everything is fresh, well prepared and authentic. The owners are very nice.

The owner is the best host ever . They make sure that you get plenty of food . They are very attentive and hospitality oriented.

Great Greek food in the area! Nice atmosphere and good service complement the food quality of this venue.

Always great food, food service timing is on point. The waitress & manager/owner checks in w/ guests at the right moments. Just a wonderful all around experience.

Food is delicious!!! Best lamb kebobs.

Great spot for Greek food. The one platter has a little bit of everything and has enough for leftovers. Need to come back soon since I didn't save room for dessert!

This place is great. First time here and won't be my last. When we got there almost every table was taken but the service was still fast and the food came out quickly. And it was sooo good. The desert was probably the best part but the gyro was also one of the best I ever had.

Edit: since my initial review I have been back a few times. Really need to go more often and not eat so much. Everything is so good. Had no room for desert so had to take it to go

It's a real challenge to find Legit homestyle Ethnic food , and not just in Dutchess county....i'm constantly assaulted by Stale Chinese Takeout for White Folks , the Invariable American- Italian for Italian -Americans (read -everything "parm") , and of course Greek that resembles Homestyle Greek about as much as i resemble an Alligator .....all that being said , the Kids at Athena are Seriously making something Very unique happen : small cozy house , but Not on top of each other ; the whole crew vested in making the experience relaxing and fulfilling ....the owner comes out to REALLY engage , not just parade around .
...... and the food is OUT OF BOUNDS ..... i had the Lamb Shanks ... you go ahead and TRY to find that at ANY so-called Greek joint . Good luck. Dude , when you get to the Crunchy part , that's the table - Stop Eating !!!
Do Not waste your time with jokers trying to pawn-off 'Greek-like' crap ......this is ORDERS of MAGNITUDE beyond ....Absolutely Go-To Greek, no shit. I'll see you there !!!

Love Athena Gyro! The food is always delicious made fresh, and the staff are super friendly.

I’ve ordered so many different things from here and it NEVER disappoints. The food is fresh, authentic and amazing. Best falafel I’ve ever had hands down. Everything has such good flavor.

Absolutely delicious, best Greek food I’ve had in so long. Family and I were back from upstate NY and traveling to Long Island, stopped here on a whim. So clean, friendly staff and the food was out in under five minutes. What an incredible establishment, please don’t hesitate to visit,

My wife loves their rice pudding! The food is authentic and soooo good! Highly recommend checking them out for anything on the menu!
