Let's start with the good: A couple of years ago the food sucked. It's gotten noticeably better. I remember a couple times trying to order a shrimp dish and the waitress would warn me that due to shrimp being so expensive the meal would only have three of them. I guess shrimp-flation is over now, or they're under new ownership, because a member of my party ordered something shrimp and it appeared to have a ton of them. I had the pork chow fun lunch. It was very good. A little bit sweet, a little bit savory. And there was plenty of meat and veg on my plate. Okay, now the bad: We had the great fortune of arriving right as another party, which just so happened to be the owner's nephew and his two toddlers. This apparently gave the owner, who was also our waiter, carte blanche to make us persona non grata for the entirety of our dining experience. His relatives got their food very quickly. Then he sat down with them for a while. I feel like our food was waiting for a bit before the thought dawned on him that he had a second annoyance... er, I mean table, to deal with. We finished our meal, and waited, and waited, and waited, for him to turn around and see, from all of maybe six feet away at the other table, that we were ready to get out. Eventually we got the check. And waited some more for him to collect the payment. Now we just have to get out the door. Easy, right? Nope! He's playing on the floor with the two kids, and I know he sees us. And I know he knows we see him seeing us. You'd think he'd move. Nope! This is his world, and we're just along for the ride. I think we stood there for a good few minutes when he took the hint and f*cked off. Never. Ever. Again.

Just had the most amazing Chinese dinner at Jian Restaurant. I was so happy to find a gourmet Chinese restaurant with beautiful decor that was not just your typical fast food place that you can find anywhere. Maggie was the most amazing server thank you so much for making me, my fiancee and my 15 month old baby daughter feel so welcome!!! We will definitely be coming back again soon!!!

My family has been dining at this restaurant ever since I was little so whenever I dine here it is nostalgic for me. The chef here actually specializes in fried fish (similar to English fish and chips) that has a delicious golden light batter. All their authentic Chinese dishes are really good too. I highly recommend coming here for quick take out or an authentic family style meal.

Very good place. Great food and good service. Unfortunately, if you pay with credit card, they charge a service fee.

On first glance, Jian is a small, physical, space, rich with color, and a feeling of privacy even though at some point in your dining experience, you may be placed at the front window. When you first sit, you feel like you are cramped like 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound bag but it is comfortable as are the padded seats. It's quiet and cozy for the most part unless you choose to eat during the busiest times. Service is good usually due to wait staff that rotate between waiting tables and covering the take out front counter or as for the food. The quality is excellent. There is definitely at least one chef working at Jian I have a feeling there is more than one. I've eaten two different dishes there recently, and I can say that the preparation of the food is to my liking meaning that they do not overuse sugar and concentrate on having balanced and flavorful meals, and which meats are cooked to perfection which most competitor Chinese restaurants in New York City do not do. in conclusion, the price range of their menu for entrées is between 13 and $24 per plate. It's well worth the extra expense to have well prepared food that doesn't offend you so you get full value for your dollar the only weakness of Jian is that you wait a little longer for your food being that the quality of what you're receiving takes time to prepare, which is entirely acceptable, and the pet peeve is that the sodas are all warm, almost body temperature, so drink, ice, water, or tea.

This restaurant sadly seems to be one of those restaurants who seem to be price gouging. Using inflation as an excuse to mislead customers and using strong smelling cleaning agents right in front of paying guests who are trying to eat, along with rude service is just plain wrong. Inflation is one issue that's unavoidable these days... but to offer one thing and serve something else made to look like what you asked for is inexcusable. I believe this is simply lying to your patrons. As shown in the picture. The large portion on the left is all the fat smothered in sauce to look like rib meat, and the small portion to the right is the actual slivers of meat in the same sauce. I ordered boneless spare ribs... and they served the back fat that you cut off and discard when preparing the meal. I grew up eating the lean rib meat, and that's what they're saying it is. This was anything but.

I won’t recommend this Japanese restaurant to anyone.I reason I’m giving 1 star is because they said I have to pay the bill including the tip which is extra 18% of the bill. When I said no I don’t want to pay the tip he “Demanded” that I have to pay it and he was rude with me.

The beef soup is amazingly delicious and quite a big serving, good for 2. The Singapore noodles was the same, we really enjoyed it a lot. Food is definitely delicious, the washroom was very clean, as we want to wash hand before meals. Excellent customer service as well. Great dining experience so far.
