You are greeted with a smile and provided with a wealth of knowledge about cheese. Let the staff know what kind of cheese you like or dislike, and their recommendations are spot on. Rest assure, you are given samples to taste so you don't go home with cheese you dislike. Although their cozy, dining area has decreased in size, you can still enjoy a delicious fondue. Check out their speciality pasta and tea. Catering is also available.

While The Village Cheese Shop has some really nice cheese, with the exception of 2-3 local NY cheeses, every other cheese was imported and those cheeses were from Europe. I truly enjoy European cheese, but the North Fork, upstate, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding states have some amazing cheese which I was hoping that I would find at this store. It's a small store and there were 10+ people when we visited. Nice store, but we were also essentially ignored until I discovered there were no local cheeses and decided to leave at which point they tried to engage us. I'm sure that you will enjoy this store if you're looking for nice imported cheeses from Europe, but I would check out the farms and farmstands if you're searching for local cheese.

These people really care about their business and know their products and the sources so well. My favorite is Four Fat Fowl from upstate near Albany. Its rinded like brie but a softer more subtle inside creaminess. This place is worth a trip you won't be disappointed.
