Mechanicville Golf Club is a nice golf course located in Mechanicville, NY. Mechanicville is a 9-hole, par 36 golf course playing at a little over 3,000 yards from the white tees. The course was built in 1909 and designed by Devereaux Emmet. The course is fairly well maintained and is a popular spot.
The course’s signature hole is probably the 6th hole which is a 320 yard par four over where a pond guards the green. The course is mostly flat, but there are some hills on the course. Most of the greens are small and play moderately fast. If you are playing 18 holes there are alternate tees for both sides
The pace of play at the course can sometimes be slow, so be sure to get out at the right time if you expect to play a quick round here. The staff here was courteous and friendly. There is a newly opened restaurant at the course as well. This is a great place to enjoy a round of golf.
My cousins had a terrible time at this place. I could list all the little things like the inconsistent pricing or the poor service but what actually compelled me to write this review was that they could literally hear someone in the kitchen yelling slurs. My cousins don’t use google reviews so I’m leaving this one because I don’t particularly care why the staff was screaming hate speech, it’s 2025 and that’s unacceptable.
This place is a horror show. The food was…not right. I hate to imagine what was happening in the kitchen, but I’m guessing food safety is not a thing. Old men aggressively hitting on obviously underaged waitstaff. We all felt a little sick after eating here.
There’s no way on planet earth this place is up to code. Got turned around ended up in a food storage area and the meat is LITERALLY on the ground & not refrigerated.
Also heard some very obviously underage staff members talking about what was definitely an under the table pay situation and labor law violations. If you can run a country club, you can afford to pay your employees properly above the table & NOT VIOLATE HEALTH LAWS!!?
My uncle and cousins had a horrible experience with rude customer service and heard staff members making racist and weird creepy comments/jokes thinking no one was in ear shot. I don’t know who it was unfortunately, but I’m sure staff does. The course itself was not ideal at all. Go to a place they actually care about their customers and the condition of the course. I rarely ever feel inclined to leave a bad review but after this experience and seeing others has shared similar, it is not surprising.
Not up to health code. Beware.
The course is usually ok. Went mid-Aughst and it's in rougher shape than I've ever seen it. Dry is normal with the lack of rain we've had but so many brown spots, even on the greens.
I expect golf courses to maintain the course with sprinklers or at least better watering.
Mechanicville, in particular, has been really prone to overly wet areas after any amount rain. So it's unexpected to see this course so dry and brown.
The greens fees have steadily gone up the past few years. But the course condition hasn't kept pace. Public courses, like Barney Rd in Clifton Park, are maintained better at half the price.
Before I get into the good and bad, I'll preface with the fact that this is a fun, easy, and convenient way to play golf. I've played here probably 50 times in the past 2 seasons. On the other hand, you will have to deal with some absolutely entitled and slow members who think they are someone important. I don't want to barrage this business with negativity but it seems necessary as I feel I've had enough and deserve to state my opinion. MCG has been my go-to for a while now and I believe I will be moving on and encourage my friends and family to do the same.
Pros
- The new on-site restaurant is excellent. The food has been exceptional and the staff is great and very friendly.
- The course is generally always in good shape no matter what time of year.
- The course is pretty easy and ideal for newer players.
- Social interaction is great. I've met some fantastic people while playing out here.
Cons
- No matter how many times I play here it seems the price is never the same and I always have to correct the price for my own sake (one staff member in particular). Be very careful and do your research on pricing so you don't get ripped off.
- This course costs $31 to play 9 holes with a cart ($34 on the weekends). I've played pretty much everywhere else in the local area and this course has no business charging that much to play (ex. Stadium is $60 for 18 holes and is a pristine course miles ahead of this place in quality and amenities).
- Be wary of the weekends. I've been stuck behind groups for almost 3 hours for 9 holes of golf. They were also rude and entitled when asking to play through.
- Blatant lying about the course being booked when it is not, or the last tee time was a few minutes before you walked into the clubhouse. I've physically watched the staff tell someone on the phone they are booked while still allowing walk-ons to tee off.
- Greens are generally slow flat and bumpy so it's tough to get a proper read on your putting.
- The golf carts are ancient and there are a few that don't work properly or have defects.
- Membership is a joke. I looked into it for this year and noticed that the membership fee is only for weekdays and doesn't include the cart.
I've tried to give this business the benefit of the doubt as it was convenient and worked out for a while. I'm fed up honestly and tired of the same nonsense. There is no reason the clubhouse should be closed before the advertised closing time posted in the clubhouse, on the internet, and on social media. This is a business that is surviving on convenience and luck. Not from good business practices and professionalism.
Yes. The course is in great shape. The rough is cut, the fairways are friendly and the greens are rolling nicely. It’s only open to the public through Saturday with a tournament scheduled for Sunday. However the restaurant vendor has already closed for the season. The course will be closed for the season on Monday. You should try to play Thursday through Saturday. You’ll be glad that you did.
Just visited but looks very clean

Terribly maintained course, rude workers who do not care about customers
Worst Father’s Day golf I have ever played. Berated by the 60 year proshop guy. Rushed to play every hole even with group in front of us.
Response: On hole 1 was asked if the four of us wanted our money back. Told to hit it and go? I am operations manager at a local golf course myself and would never treat customers that way. Also last year left a club on the course, called the next day and they have my Cleveland pitching wedge with the price sticker still on it, came back next day and they let someone else take my club that I called and claimed the day before out for a tournament? They never returned my club?
Played in a tournament there and the course was in great condition also the food and entertainment was excellent
My first time at this course. Only played 9 holes. Fairways are in great shape. Greens are still recovering from the winter like everywhere else. I will definitely go back and play 18. Staff we encountered were all very friendly and helpful.
