The Refuge in Melville is easily one of my favorite spots on Long Island! From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming — the perfect balance between upscale and relaxed. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and you can tell they take real pride in what they do.
The food? Absolutely fantastic. Every dish I’ve tried has been fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether it’s brunch, dinner, or just drinks with friends, everything hits the mark. Their cocktails are top-notch too — creative, balanced, and served with a smile.
It’s the kind of place that works for any occasion — casual night out, date night, or a big group celebration. You can always count on great energy, delicious food, and excellent service.

Nice restaurant but very disappointed when I tried to order a hamburger and was told I couldn't take certain toppings off! Just because of things like that if I lived in the area I wouldn't return. I ended up ordering the majority chicken bowl that was seasoned way to heavy for my liking.

My experience at Refuge was mixed. A friend and I went inside to sit down at the bar to order drinks And food. The bartender Lacey, basically ignored us until I got her attention to one wipe the bar down. There was water spilled and cup rings still on the bar when I sat down. And she didn't wipe the bar down until I asked. I can see if it was crowded or really busy at the time but it wasn't. Once my friend arrived and we ordered our drinks, she wasn't attentive to us, however, she was attentive to everyone else. Never smiled at us but smiled at everyone else. I asked for an 1800 coconut neat and she charged me for a double. I wasn't happy about that but I paid it and I tipped her. Then we went outside after paying our tab and Evan was amazing.!! He was all smiles. He was pleasant. He was attentive and gave all around good service. I know the next time I go in I'm going straight to the outside bar.
Our server was great hands down. However I waited for nearly 10 minutes in front of the hostess station before I was acknowledged by a server and even then people who came after me were seated by a server before me. Now I was solo and the people after me was a four top sooooo yeah I know why but what ever. My issue was the owner/manager walked by with a drink in hand sipping it, seen me standing and not even eye contact or acknowledgement when I said hello. Hostess took a long phone reservation and did not even look up to signal me she would be right with me. This was incrediblely uncomfortable. I'm glad to see this absolutely beautiful restaurant is doing well in a tuff economy. I guess so well my single selfs moneys weren't a priority....
Wings were ok. Large juicy and baked not fried loves that. Salad was meh. Soda was a bit flat. All an all not a great experience but everyone has off days so I'll try again in the future.

Great food and service I had thick mocktail which was pretty much a virgin pina colada but straight up and it was so good I had two. I love that they have cute drinks on the menu for people who don’t drink. The atmosphere was really cool. The food took a while but they did have two parties in the party rooms. Food was good I had a burger, but I want to come back on a Sunday to try their brunch!

The service was great, the food was large portions and made well. I had a grilled chicken sandwich that was perfectly cooked, juicy seasoned great. The shrimp bowl was also great. The music was to our liking and just loud enough to hear but quiet enough that we could still talk to each other. I recommend this for any meal.
