I can't understand how I hadn't been to this restaurant in all the years it's been open. Fantastic food combined with wonderful service in a very enjoyable venue make for a fantastic experience. Among my favorites are the Cognac Shrimp (one of the best marinades ever), Stuffed Veal Chop (Fred Flintstone would be envious), Chorizo and Octopus (2 separate appetizers) both moist and as flavorful as any I've had. I look forward to coming to this restaurant for many, many years

Very disappointed at everything, the service was horrible we did not have any services , the food came it was cold we had not water no wine during our meal . I the end a did complain to one of the waiters who did offer a desert but I refuse . This place use to be good years ago but my experience after not going there for a bet was horrible .

What a terrible service. I went there part of a wedding my friend had there and we were seating at the last table which I didn’t know it meant the not to get food at all. We barely got anything at all when we asked a waitress and she was very rude about it and didn’t bring us anything. What horrible

Went here last night after many, many years. It was good at one point but has now gone downhill. We ordered the lulas grelhadas and carne de porco alentejana. The food was horrible! I would give it 0 stars if i could.

To respond to the restaurant owner, i would like to point out that I believe you mistaken us for another party because we did not arrive at your restaurant until after after 3pm. We left as soon as we were finished eating because we had to go to another place that closed at 6 PM and we barely just made it and it was only 12 minutes away from your establishment. Aside from that, I do apologize if my review disappointed you, but I am trying to be nothing but truthful and I look forward in the future to coming back to your restaurant and my review turning from 2 star to 5 stars. Happy holidays!

After reading some positive reviews of Lareira, I decided to order two appetizers from Lareira. One of them was the bolinhos de bacalhau which were disappointing (all potato, no cod), while the rissois were ok. Not sure if this was an off day, as I have ordered from them in the past but this experience was disappointing.

Nice comfortable place that was half empty at 7pm on a Friday night. Service was good. We had empanadas for the table that were just OK. I had paella which was pretty good but I added lobster for $15 dollars. Although I was able to get some meat out of the claws, the tail was empty! It was full of rice. My wife had shrimp and scallops over mashed potatoes which was also OK. The house sangria was pretty good. All and all it was a decent experience but nothing stood out. By the look of the small crowd the place may be struggling

Utterly fantastic. Some of the best food I’ve had in Mineola. My wife and I went here for a celebration of our IVF journey, and Pedro, the owner, came over and asked us what we’re celebrating and talked to us for a while. He was super nice. I’d come back just because I want his restaurant to succeed. Other than that, the food was AMAZING! We had the cognac shrimp which was fantastic, I got the whole branzino and my wife got the duck which was the best part of the meal. All the food was utterly excellent. We will definitely be back. Thank you Pedro.

Really good, authentic food. Really makes me think like "Mom made it". This is a family-owned restaurant and they take really good care of their clients like if they were their family. Try their francesinha and you won't regret it?

I've been to Lareira at night, but never for lunch. Today was my first lunch experience. There could have been people on the bar side, but my friend and I had the place to ourselves. Big difference than a weekend evening. For apps, I often get the shrimp turnovers, calamari or the octopus (a must) when they have it. We tried the baked clams. Sadly, they were mushy and topped with limp bacon. Skip those, and order the other items. They used to have great potato chips, but for some reason they're no longer offered. I ate the complimentary meat filled bread, which is a nice twist. I have tried a few entrees, but I always go back to the cognac shrimp. It's the perfect shrimp dish, served with rice and veggies. The conquila is also a great different type of dish if you dare. Service is always great.
