Each time me and my husband go here we order the same exact thing but for some reason the price is never the same each time. They don’t give itemize receipt of your bill which makes me think they are robbing people. They don’t even tell you that the tip is already included. Won’t be going back there !
Nay was everything, that girl knows her stuff when it comes to that restaurant! I had a little issue with my table( too out in the open for me) within 15 minutes she moved us and then we spent $450, I should have just stayed at the original table we wouldn't have spent that much lol. Atmosphere/music was littyyyy. Food delicious, drinks were good, but we did mostly SHOTS! Hookah was strong we loved it, and the staff was friendly. I will be back 4 sure.

I base my stars on five different factors:
Staff: Jazz was our waiter/bartender. Very nice, welcoming, and had a lot of people so not as present but was just few steps away. Service was a liiiiittle slow but the slow where you can see it’s because he was busy.
Cleanliness: Very clean as soon as you walk in. Very cozy, bar type restaurant.
Bathroom: Clean and very pretty green.
Food&Drink: Food was amazing! A lot of pineapple which I don’t mind at all. Drinks tasted amazing but not too much alcohol. Decent I would say.
Overall experience: Went for my friends birthday and she had a blast. Live DJ Mostly Jamaican music

Jazz and the
X aka XAVIER bartender made the most amazing drinks—I’m in shock! A complete 360 from my last visit. I came on a Sunday night around 10 PM, and from the security to the bartenders to the DJ, the entire experience was incredible.
I want to sincerely apologize for my first visit not being as pleasant, but this time was a whole different vibe. The espresso martinis from my favorite little X == Xavier bartender were amazing, and my girls had their drinks prepared by Jazz—also incredible! The music was absolutely on point.
I’ll definitely be returning every time I’m in the area. Thank you, guys! Sometimes, you never know what the person across from you is going through, and this was truly liquid therapy. Cheers! 🍸

Sugar Cane Village—two hours there, and the DJ played Drake songs the whole time we were there. In a Jamaican spot in Mount Vernon? Come on, sir! We even told the bartender, who passed the message to the DJ, but he straight-up ignored us. The food was okay, the drinks were strong, but the vibe wasn’t it. Didn’t make us want to keep spending our $$$. Won’t be returning!

Its a no for me. I have been wanting to try this place for a while. Finally ordered some take out for fam . Everything was horrible. Ordered their "fresh" escovitch fish, the dish smelled burned and sour. Also oxtail had no real flavor, rice & peas tasteless. Topped off with salt fish spring rolls another epic fail. Could have just been a bad day, but at those prices and charging customers $22 gratuity for take out. They can keep it. First and last time. However, if interested please try for yourself. Really hoping it was just a bad day.
Came here last night, food was super mid I had higher expectations from the reviews but the rice didn’t taste authentic it just tasted like rice with butter not your typical rice and peas, the vegetables had absolutely no flavor it tasted like they just steamed them no salt or pepper, the meats wasn’t too bad but could have been better the drinks were good. It didn’t give authentic Jamaican food in my opinion I Hate the fact that I wasn’t able to enjoy the food I wish it was better!
Seemed like a cool
Spot - didn’t stay because it’s small and it was extremely crowded

I went to SCRV today for the first time after like a year of wanting to go. This is a fire place in the neighborhood that I probably won't go back to because of the people that goes. Dudes be standing on the wall instead of dancing...that's to say, the ratio is pretty good.. A downside (like the first sentence wasn't one) is it closes at 1 AM at least on Fridays. Furthermore...some of the the women are scheming, trying to sell you on the next spot (spoiler: $100 bottles that really cost 30-40 max which would be fine but... They also charge cover-they don't tell you that part.) Additionally, they'll surely call you broke if you opt out of being swindled.
TLDR: Go to SGRV but not wherever else anyone tell you to go. My honest opinion.

I don't know what's going on with the food lately at Sugar Cane, but they changed the menu and removed my favorite items. The new items are smaller portions for the same price or more expensive. They removed the shrimp and lobster meal and now only serve a lobster meal for almost the same price. They removed breadfruit fries/chips from the menu, and the lobster tacos were removed from the menu. They removed the brown stew snapper. They aren't serving grilled jerk anything, everything is done in the oven. Atp it's just underwhelming. In my last 3 visits, I've been trying to find something else that I love, and I haven't found anything.
I had oxtail on July 27th, and it was really tender but salty, and it wasn't slow cooked it was done in a pressure cooker pot. So the gravy wasn't nice, thick, and rich in flavor.
I had the plantain shrimp boat, which was good, but the tails were left on the shrimp, making eating it unnecessarily inconvenient because you have to dissect the meal to remove the tails, then reassemble it.
I will say that I absolutely love this place, but they need to get it together like yesterday. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to eat elsewhere before I go to Sugar Cane.

10/10 highly recommend ???♀️. Always a vibe here!! The food is delicious (those oxtail spring rolls have me in a chokehold)!! Drinks are strong!! The DJ knows how to keep the crowd happy. And the staff is amazing. Thank you Kathy for being an incredible server for my mom’s 70th birthday dinner there! She was sweet, attentive, and never lost her cool. Thank you chef for coming out and checking on us. And compliments to the bar ??. I tell everyone to check out this place whenever they are in the BX!
