I have been doing my self care Fridays dining using my Jetblue dining recommendations and this was the next restaurant in line. It was well worth the time and effort to go there. I had the fried calamari and the seafood rice. Both were very well done. I ordered takeout and spent the journey debating if I had a spoon or fork in my bag because the smell was so tantalizing. The portions are very large and could easily feed 3 people. The food was very good and I would definitely go back.

On recommendation we came to this restaurant. We are a pretty diverse group of 4. We walked into an empty but clean and aesthetically pleasing dining room. We were told to sit anywhere and chose a table that seated 4. We were given a dinner special menu and I asked for the other menu along with a drink menu. We initially ordered calamari and our drinks which were an espresso martini and a cosmopolitan which were the best tasting thing there. Seeing that it was on recommendation we were told to try salmon bruschetta which was extremely fishy, like being extremely fishy. We. Pant est it at all. I went on a whim and decided to order something outside the box. I ordered a grill octopus and after my first bite decided it wasn’t for me. I explained to them that I didn’t like it and they just took it away. They didn’t asked if I wanted to substitute it for anything else so i assumed it would be taken off the bill. My son’s girlfriend ordered steak but it was in gravy and it tasted spoiled. Same issue, they took it away without offering a substitute. My son and his friend ordered a steak sandwich and some ribs and even tho they weren’t fans, the ate a few bites and pieces. We had to call them multiple times to explain to them why we didn’t like our meal and each time it took at least 15 minutes and 2 tries to get their attention. At this point we were ready to go. We asked for the bill and again they asked us why we didn’t like the meal, again we explained how it tasted and how it smelled. They unfortunately charged us for everything that was ordered and even taken away. We asked how can we pay for things that we didn’t like or ate or even substituted and they said it was their policy. That everything was in fresh today and it wasn’t their problem. I told them that I take on full responsibility of paying for the octopus even tho I didn’t eat it but I’ll take it to go( my intentions were to give it to a homeless person who might find it to their liking) they said that their chef had to taste our foods and then she proceed to bring it back to me so I can pack it. My son’s gf asked them to taste the bruschetta since her and I shared one and they refused. She said her meal tasted spoiled and they didn’t wanna do anything about it. It wasn’t until they were challenged about not offering another dish and to take our food away to be “taste tested” and hat someone else came to our table to rectify the issue. The initial waiter didn’t want to refund us any money even tho we were just asking for one plate to be removed. The second waiter said he’ll take off one meal and the initial waiter threw the receipt in his face and said “ then you do it” and walked off. We end up leaving everything they brought back after admitting it went for taste testing and missing for 45 mins. We were verbally attacked and made out to be wrong in the situation. I end up paying the bill out of principal but we will never visit or recommend this establishment to anyone in the future.

Not sure why this is a listed as a Portuguese restaurant. The food has no flavor and was really like a very average American diner with lots of meat. Definitely don’t recommend. Go to Applebees
We have dining at Lusiadas for a couple of decades or so. As I understand it, it changed ownership not long ago. Last Sunday we had Ameijoas Bulhão Pato: best ever here and in Portugal. Its Bacalhau a Lagareiro (take-away) was superb. Very good value wines (Guarda Rios) and with Portuguese background music: Casa da Mariquinhas, among other classics.
Lusidas Portuguese Restaurant in Mount Vernon is truly a neighborhood gem! Conveniently located across from City Hall and Mount Vernon PD, this spot radiates warmth and community. Every visit feels personal, with welcoming patrons and staff who know many guests on a first-name basis.
The full-service bar is a standout, serving ice-cold beers in perfectly chilled glasses—draft or bottle—for under $10. If you’re new, don’t miss their signature Caipirinha, a cocktail that’s as refreshing as it is iconic.
The food is simply phenomenal, reflecting the chef’s and ownership's passion for delivering dishes that are as visually appealing as they are delicious, all at competitive prices. The restaurant layout is versatile, with a cozy dining area and a space ideal for gatherings or conferences.
Weekends are a special treat, blending karaoke and a residential DJ into an intimate, lively atmosphere that fosters connection and fun. It’s a place where you can bring the family, enjoy a meal, drinks, and even dance the night away.
Be sure to explore their wine list! While they don’t have an in-house sommelier, the staff’s knowledge of Portuguese wines and pairings will impress you.
This isn’t a paid review—just a heartfelt recommendation for a local favorite that brings food, drinks, and community together seamlessly. Cheers to Lusidas!
We were so excited to try this restaurant because of the new sushi menu they are were offering. I called before hand to make sure the sushi guy was already working so by the time we get there we would be good to go… 2 HOURS and still waiting for sushi. 1 HOUR to get our picanha, rice and beans that first came with hair and overcooked but they switched to a new meal. (not charging on our waitress bc there’s not enough staff to attend a busy Sunday lunch, however she was great when with us.
I can tell how tired and exhausted we are after experiencing this restaurant. Not enough staff, food comes with hair and they don’t let us know -before we order sushi- that the guy was not even there. So frustrating.
Great food with short waiting time and very kind staff. I would recommend eating here.

Very good Portuguese cuisine.
Grilled Octopus is exceptional. Grilled Bacalhau very good.
Roasted baby suckling pig - exceptional (available only on Sunday).
Very good steak.
The food was exceptional and it met and exceeded any expectations we have for a Portuguese restaurant. I’ve been traveling to Portugal for 34 years, this is not only authentic but top-notch execution of the most common Portuguese entrées. The staff was extremely attentive, and the service was great, they also have their own in-house pastry chef. The desserts were exceptional and when really needs to enjoy as many as possible with friends.

Very rude staff ! Showed up at 8:05pm as the hours listed state - 10pm on Sundays. As we were about to walk in from the court yard, one of the female workers said that they were closed. My friend said "oh your hours of business, say 10 pm." She rudely replied."WE ARE CLOSED." No class & very rude. I had a party of 4 and wanted to try this restaurant.
Not for me, but update your hours of business for potential guests and train your staff on customer service.
