The Shahi Catering That Transported Me 2 Miles Away!✨

Have you ever had food so authentic it actually made you homesick for a place that wasn't even your home? That's exactly what happened when I first walked into Shahi Catering Bellerose, NY 11426.

I was craving something that would remind me of my time living in Hyderabad, where my Indian friends would invite me to their homes for those soul-warming, grandma-cooked meals that no restaurant could replicate. Or so I thought—until I discovered this hidden gem.

Walking in, I was skeptical. Could any place in Long Island really capture those flavors? The cafeteria-style setup looked promising—exactly like the local spots I frequented in India. But the real test would be in the taste.

I ordered the 3-item lunch combo plate: paneer tikka masala, mixed veg, and lentil soup with Tandoori roti/naan . The moment they handed me that steaming plate, the aroma of perfectly balanced spices hit me, and suddenly I wasn't in Long Island anymore—I was back in India.

Although, I must confess… My favorite items on the menu are the Shahi Paneer, Veg mix , palak paneer and Yellow Dal transport me back to those family dinners halfway across the world. And don't get me started on their Tandoori roti/naan—I gladly pay extra for it every time! 😋

What sets Shahi's apart isn't just the food—it's the Didi Sarabjit and her son Dilraj Paag (owners) Chef Makhan pagg who treat you like extended family, taking time to chat as if you're sitting in their home kitchen. They cook everything fresh, meaning they can adjust the spice level to your preference (though I always ask for mine authentically spicy). Ask for mint and tamarind chutney, these will elevate your taste buds experience. 🤤

Pro tip: If you're in a hurry, use their convenient pickup window—you don't even have to leave your car! But honestly, you'll want to come inside just for the warm welcome.

In a city with plenty of Indian restaurants, Shahi's is where you go when you want to taste what Indian families actually eat at home. Sometimes the most authentic experiences are found in the most unassuming places! 🥰

Had some really good samosas from here. They were flavorful and just the right amount of spice.

Extremely disappointing experience
I ordered goat curry and garlic naan, but what I received was half-cooked goat, bland curry, and plain naan instead of garlic naan. On top of that, they overcharged me for the full price of garlic naan and properly cooked goat curry. Completely unacceptable quality and service. I won’t be ordering from here again and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I wanted something quick and I was gonna go to Wendy’s but I decided to support small business and I was hoping they had some premade Tandoori chicken. I asked for one and I heard the lady said 10-20 mins and I said oh no I’m okay I’m just gonna come back another day. And then she clarified and said 10-12 minutes I mistunderstood her bc of her accent . I said okay I can do 10-12 mins . I don’t want to wait 20 mins and she said oh no not 20 mins
I ended up waiting 25 mins and there was no sense of urgency.
I feel like I was lied too just for the sale. I was the only person in the store when I ordered . Simone came in after me got something from the hot bar and something from the kitchen . I didn’t see the door dash tablet going off. Disappointing . The leather on the seats was ripping so the atmosphere gets 2 stars from me. The chicken was fine.

We came from Ohio for our family wedding event in NY. We needed someone to provide us brunch and dinner at our hotel hospitality room on those days where there was no family function. We were lucky to have found Shahi Catering. Their food, pricing and delivery was awesome. Balwinder Cheema bhaji and his son personally helped us by delivering food every day on time. We will again use them if and when needed and highly recommend them.

We recently ordered from Shahi Catering for a gathering of 16 people (8 adults and 8 kids), and we couldn’t be happier! Every dish was freshly made, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. We got a variety of appetizers, vegetarian and non-vegetarian mains, and sides. The Tandoori Mixed Grill was smoky and delicious, the Shahi Paneer and Daal Makhni were rich and comforting, and the Butter Chicken and Goat Curry were full of deep, satisfying flavors. The basmati rice and garlic naan paired perfectly with everything. The staff were so friendly and helpful throughout the process. Highly recommend for anyone looking for fresh, authentic Indian food for a group. Every tray was excellent!
