Homemade and so good!! I can’t think of any other place around that compares.
Highly recommend the house made bratwurst! Though I ordered a mix just to sample what they had, hands down theirs won the prize. Their mustard is house made too! What a treat!
Lobster bisque was the soup of the day, and since it was my first time there, I had to have it. Wow! Flavorful and definitely made with real lobster (I even caught some shell in there so I know it was genuine. Thumbs up)
A great meal after a decent hike in the gunks. Recommended.

We are traveling in Newburgh for a camping trip and ordered take out from Gus’s. We were so pleased. Potato pancakes were delicious and huge! Then we got the pork schnitzel and a chef salad. Really big portions and was really happy with the quality. Absolutely recommend!

My two kids and I went here for dinner tonight. We had appetizers and dinner. We all had the same dinner. Pork Schnitzel. They were all dry but I was the only one who sent mine back and very quietly told the waitress it was dry. We didn’t ask or expect anything. The waitress who was extremely nice comped half of it. We were in 2 cars and as we were leaving I see the owner talking to my son in his car. I figured maybe he knew him from somewhere because we have been here before. My son calls me to say the owner approached him to ask him why we sent a dish back & on & on about how he shouldn’t have comped anything. I have never ever had an owner of any business confront myself or my family in a parking lot. We go back to ask him why he would do this and he had been drinking and kept asking the same questions “ why did I send it back” “ how was it dry” he even had the cutlet in a zip lock bag on the bar. There was no point in continuing the conversation because we weren’t getting any where and I doubt he’ll will even remember tomorrow. The staff was very nice & apologetic and probably mortified by his actions. It’s sad because it used to be a good place!

Good authentic European cooking. Had the Hungarian goulash with red cabbages and spaetzles. All delicious. The potato pancake appetizer was equally good. And the apple strudel with both whipped cream and ice cream was also delicious.

Shrimp was OK a little salt in the water goes a long way when preparing. Sauerbraten was awful not sure where they got their recipe but a vinegar flavor is not it. Potato dumplings were awful, kinda like a stove topfried stuffing ball only compact like a softball. Mash potatoes were off almost tasted instant but the menu said otherwise. We went for the prime rib however with out reserving a piece or being a regular worthy of the extra tray in the back your out of luck. We are german so we know german food and that isn't what we eat tonight. Would have been better making it at home.:-(.

Very disappointed with the place overall. The only saving grace was our waitress. She was pleasant, professional and attentive. Also the Rye bread was good. The place is very dated with its all over wood paneling. Old fashion tables and chairs. The quality, portion size and price of the food is outrageous. I realize the Porterhouse is roughly 20% fat however a 32oz Porthouse for $30 plus when it broke down to maybe 15oz when all the fat was trimmed away is not exceptable. Plus it had zero flavor at all!!! One ice cream scoop of cold Mashed Potatoes with hardly any Gravy and 4 Asparagus stalks that were over cooked. Prime Rib also over $30 was cooked as asked but yet again no flavor. Will not recommend or return again to this restaurant. I didn't complain to the waitress as I realize it was not her fault or doing. She was left a well earned generous tip for her efforts.

We had never been here before, but had heard alot of good things about the food. We started off with the peirogis, which were very good. The salads with the meal were good. Then for our entrees we had the sauerbraten with red cabbage and a dumpling, which was one of the better flavored sauerbraten we have had in a while. Definitely authentic German flavors.

So my niece took her father for lunch for his birthday on 03/16/24 to Gus’s as my brother loved this place. Well my niece was served and the lunch had green mold on it. The owner who came out did not even apologize but to make it worse he did not take it off the bill. My niece took a picture and it was gross. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Where it may have been good years ago it definitely it not now. I am 100% German and I will never be seen in this place. I told my niece to call the better business bureau as well as a health inspector since this place should not be open.
