My wife and I had been meaning to try Desi Dhaba for months and finally stopped in on a whim for a late lunch a few Friday's ago. The food was very, very good and my wife was raving about it! We got Mixed Veggie Pakoda as an appetizer that came with two sauces that were very tasty. The pakoda were fried to perfection! Our meals were Aloo Gobi Masala (vegan) and Chicken Rogan Josh. Both were really good. If you like some heat, ask for medium or more. We didn't specify and both dishes could have been a little spicier for our tastes. I will admit my chicken was a little tough and I'm used to more tender chicken but it didn't take away from the outstandingly complex flavors in the sauce. The service was outstanding and attentive. It was quiet when we got there and got busier as we dined, but the server still constantly checked on us (and even brought more rice for our meals). The restaurant could use a bit more ambiance but that didn't detract from the experience. It used to be a diner, so I expect it will take some effort to get one big room with all those windows to feel more cozy and warm. I hope they do as it would add a lot to the dining-in experience. Also, the bathrooms were newly renovated and immaculate!Desi Dhaba is definitely going to be a go-to option for us for Indian food in the area from now on. We will be back soon and look forward to it!

We did not eat inside because we are takeout people, but both of the times we picked up food it was pretty busy inside. It's nice that they have online ordering. I love their food. It has a good flavor and it's very comforting. The chilli chicken appetizer is delicious, highly recommend. Take a piece and put it in some naan and yum

When our daughter informed us she would like to use this restaurant as a source for her wedding reception's food, we were surprised, and frankly, a little concerned. We did not know much about Indian food (from what we knew, it was all very spicy and with lots of curry). We went to the restaurant and sampled some of their offerings, and were pleasantly surprised - several entrees were not spicy at all, and we enjoyed all of the entrees we tried.Based on our "taste test", we agreed to go ahead and contract with Desi Dhabi to provide the food for approximately 150 wedding guests. The overall experience was excellent - the restaurant volunteered to loan us "warmers" to keep the food hot (our reception location was about 30 miles from the restaurant), the food was ready on time and was very favorably received by our guests. We got many compliments on the food - a number of the guests had limited or no exposure to Indian food, but commented on how good it was and how surprised they were at how much they enjoyed it. Some local guests inquired where we sourced the food, and when they found out the local source, expressed they would definitely be visiting the restaurant. One other thing we wanted to comment on - we had some family members who had a number of food allergies - the restaurant was very responsive and helpful in sharing the ingredients in the entrees we had ordered, setting our guests at ease about which entree they could enjoy without worry. We would definitely use Desi Dhabi again, and as we attend an event in Newburgh a couple times a year, we plan to eat in the restaurant when we get the opportunity.

The restaurant itself is very plain but they make up for it with amazing food. We've never been disappointed, and we have tried many different items on the menu. Portions are generous, we usually have leftovers for lunch the next day.
