My mom and I went in and ordered icecream. We sat there for 20 minutes while the girl just talked and dillydallied around without bothering to take the order back to be filled. We got up and left. worst experience ever.

This has been our local go-to place, for many years and counting. When you think of "Hometown Diner/Cafe" what comes to mind is exactly what it is.It is a small, old diner. We go there for good comfort food. I am an adventurous foodie but when it comes to true and tried, all-time favorites - they do not disappoint.Hubby and I get our favorite "angry bird" sandwiches there, which are not on the menu anywhere else in the north country, and of course ice cream. In all my travels domestically and abroad, this is one of the very few places that I would travel extra distance to get ice cream from. As local BNB hosts, we recommend this place to our guests who want a "north country" dining experience. The service is great.Priced very reasonably. There is plenty of parking in the parking lot and along the road if you must. They offer dine-in or will prepare food for take-out.Will continue dining there.Suggested areas of potential improvement.1. Could use some updates with seating, lighting, bathroom, etc.2. I am not sure if the old garage bays next door are owned by the same people but I know a few local artists who could be commissioned to paint colorful mural-style art on those rather unattractive old bays and make the outdoor area more exciting.3. Outdoor tables are awesome, and very convenient, however during the warm season, when not cleaned promptly, which happens frequently, attract yellow jackets, it will keep even nonallergic folks on edge, or the sticky mess gets covered in dust making it harder to wipe with just a napkin. We have used our own cleaning supplies to clean them up in the past but we do not always have those with us in the car. Perhaps wiping them more often and providing customers with a way to wipe their own tables at busy times of the day could make the situation more manageable.4. Feature diner-style art from local north country artists and crafters.

We sat and waited for 10 minutes without a waitress. We finally grabbed our own menu's. Other diners were arriving after us. A waitress finally appeared and went straight to the people who had just come in the door. We got up and left.

Home of the classics, a real diner, with kind staff, great food, and an ice cream shop that reminds you of an old movie. From college students to locals, everyone’s leaving

Very friendly staff and helpful. The coconut cream pie was outstanding! My main dish was delicious but I ordered an Angry Bird sandwich which included a fried chicken breast with onion rings and a tangy sauce which the menu stated would be served on a Kaiser roll but was instead served on a plain hamburger bun. The plain bun couldn’t hold all that food. I would order it again only if it’s served on a Kaiser roll.

These people that own Hometown diner also own Hometown market and Deli also own Madrid Hotel. Has anyone caught on how the service has been terrible as well as their food lately? I can tell you service sucks because they just don’t care or take pride in what they do. The food is awful because what Hometown Market doesn’t sell out of their meat case. They throw their expired meats chicken, beef and hamburger andthe freezers, and bring them to the restaurants to cook off and serve to the customers.. carefully know what your ordering these people are playing dirty games

The food was not so good it was kind of blah. I ordered a hamburger and it tasted terrible. I also ordered a salad and I also ordered a salad and it was a fresh. I also got a piece of pie. It was that worked out, but I asked the waitress to warm it up. She sucked as a waitress. She needs to be fired immediately.

It took a while to get any service. We were pretty much ignored until we were about to get up and leave. Mind you it's not busy. The food was pretty okay. The fries were cold. Our waitress disappeared and when she would come out she ignored us and the other one finally got to us. I don't know if it was just an off night but it definitely could have been better.

Eat here! It’s hard to find good food & service around here. Friendly waitstaff, todays special was egg sand with home fries for less than $6! Worth the 10 min drive from Potsdam.
