There are mistakes and then there are purposeful events. I was working in the area of Plainview NY and was staying near there. I needed to do laundry yesterday (Thursday) because I had the time and was running low. I got the laundry started at the laundromat and 3 doors (+/-) down was a bar called tipsy taco. So I went in to kill time and have a cold one. I was the only person in there at 6pm. I talked to the bartender and being the only person in there I asked if the place ever got jumping. He said it had been the night before due to live music, and that it would be again tomorrow for half price tacos and that the big seller was the bang bang shrimp tacos. I asked what time the half price tacos were and he said "all day." So I responded that I would definitely be back the next day after work to partake in such a festive and affordable extravaganza (I didn't really say it that way). I paid for my beer and tipped well over 20%. I then collected my laundry and retired for the night. I came back after work tonight (Friday). I ordered the bang band shrimp tacos as was suggested and a large margarita ($14) but asked to have the alcohol of a large in a small. I got it and was surprised that I could not taste much tequila, but figured I would feel it soon enough. I ate the tacos and drank the drink. The place started to get more and more busy. I went to the window to take a picture of a phenomenal sunset. When I returned my plate was gone, my unfinished drink was gone and I was a bit pissed about that. There must have been at least $4+ of drink left in my $14 drink served in a plastic cup with a lid. I tried to flag the guy down but got nowhere. Finally the girl next to me got his attention and I was able to ask for my check. He gave the check to me and the tacos were full price. I asked about it and the BANG!!! There it was! The smirk of a grifter as he gaslighted me and told me that the half price tacos were yesterday... the day I was sitting there talking to him about half price tacos tomorrow. I could go on about who said what and it would be a waste of time. Point is that I was simply stunned by that smirk and the gaslighting b******** So I paid my bill. Tipped about 19% and left. The food was ok and half price would be a fair price for the amount and quality. The $14 drink never even gave me the feeling someone would get from a Coors light pony, so I am guessing that I got ripped off there too. Unbeknownst to this guy, I am on the verge of signing a contract to be in the area a lot over the next 5 years and Tipsy Taco will never be on my list of places to go. That guy is a liar and his drink pours are poor. The food is ok for Lilly white 50 something grandparents (the majority of the patrons flashing grand baby pics to each other on their phones) but there is nothing in Tipsy Taco worth exploring. The band was terrible but I think that was the shtick... everyone knew each other including the people in the band. So my guess is they were getting paid in booze. But they did suck in an endearing kind of way. I do not think the bartender made mistakes, I think it was a well calculated purposeful event to trick me yesterday into coming in today, screw me today twice with a shitty pour and full priced food, and get off on doing it. The smirk gave it all away. I've seen it all my life from a certain ilk of pricks, some are/were family members. I give it two stars because the food has not made me sick yet. But I'll still never go there again.

When we first pulled up it looked like they were closed, but don't let that fool you. We came here for taco Tuesday, but they don't have deals. Atmosphere is alright and so is the decor. Nothing is eye catching but to me doesn't matter. It's all about the food. We ordered drinks that were great. Tacos are okay, but the best taco at this place is the cheeseburger taco. Absolutely the best taco they have here. This is probably the only reason to come back which is why I gave it three stars. Without this taco I would not consider coming back just because service was slow and food is eh alright. He forgot to put my drink order in and I get that happens. One thing that was gross to see was our server's fingernails. They were so dirty, but he was a nice. They do have a live band come in that took up the entire place which was very confusing because there weren't many places for costumers to come and eat to enjoy the music. Overall it's an okay place to stop and try for that cheeseburger taco.

The owner is unprofessional and unfriendly. Lacking the human traits necessary to have a restaurant succeed in any manor . I am surprised in a time where there are taco spots on every corner you’d strive to be friendly and take care of your customers whether it’s something small or something large. It shouldn’t matter the situation. You shouldn’t talk down to a customer or treat them like a child just because you are having bad day. You need to learn to separate your stress and average every day life from your business and livelihood. There is nothing to differentiate you from right coast , Nellys taqueria , dirty taco , mission taco , or even Texas taco unless something special stands out. Perhaps to make up for the money that was spent through a third party (door dash , Uber eats etc) that you’re STILL getting the money for even though it was an item that was not available you give options. You have that money in your pocket and i do not. The professional way to handle this and show customer service skills would be to apologize first and foremost and advise that you’d reach out and fix the problem. You could have gone so many routes. Whether it was a voucher for an appetizer to come in and pickup , or a drink to entice the person to give another chance and opportunity and show good ethics. You would imagine a returning customer is a positive and word of mouth is every thing in this time we live in. I’m very disappointed because i did enjoy this place originally when i found it. I had considered it a hidden gem and began talking to other people in Yelp and foodie groups. Now the unfortunate circumstances out that to a halt. Please think during your next response about your reaction before continuing to belittle a customer and make them feel absolutely horrible for something that had nothing to with them directly.

ALLERGY ALERT! Don't order from this place if you are celiac or gluten sensitive, they won't mark your to go bag as to which is which. Plus the food was cold and they forgot one order and we had to go back and pick it up and the owner? Server? Bartender? Was indifferent when we got there, almost like we were doing him the favor. Do NOT recommend.

Ordered the Philly taco, elote and apple carmel empanada! Amazing! 2nd time experience and was definitely better the first.

Pleasantly surprised!!! Didn't expect much given it seemed more bar then restaurant when we first walked in... then the menu was more bar food pricing than restaurant prices... we got the chicken tortilla soup chips and guacamole, arroz con pollo (starter) ,bbq carnitas taco, bang bang shrimp taco, grilled fish taco, steak fajita, chicken cheese empanada, Buffalo chicken taco But then the food came out... WOW!!! Compliments to the chef on the great flavors and whoever came up with the menu and recipes. Everything was delicious and amazing. Can't say enough about food here will definitely be back for takeout or dine in

This was the worst meal I've had on Long Island and the worst tacos in my life. The tacos sound tasty but they were prepared poorly with ingredients that weren't fresh. The steak tacos tasted rancid, the carnitas tacos were super dry, the j*** chicken tacos had way too much pepper and there was hardly any shrimp in the bang bang tacos. The tortilla chips were stale and the apple empanada tasted like canned fruit. I'm extremely disappointed and really wanted to like this place since it's so close. If you're in the mood for tacos, try another place.

Photos on this site are deceiving, had fried fish rice bowl that at first thought was over cooked plantain, but alas it was fish "pieces" that was over cooked, dry, and salty. When I complained they looked at me like I was the crazy one for returning...I don't even want to go into how bad the second dish they gave me was. Won't be going back.

The Tipsy Taco is a wonderful neighborhood bar. It is comfortable, welcoming and filled with fun times. Benny the bartender is fantastic. He will take the time to get to know you and make sure you're happy. When you come here you're coming for more than just a drink. I highly recommend.

Decided to try this place out after seeing they had a 4.5 and ended up very disappointed. I should've know there would be an issue when I arrived and the restaurant was completely empty. Nachos were decent but was covered in "movie theatre cheese" . Ordered the original beef taco which was extremely salty and the buffalo chicken taco which was weirdly very sweet and chicken had a strange texture. The best thing I had was the empanada but half way through eating it I noticed it was dripping of grease and when I squeezed the empanada a bunch of oil came pouring out. Overall food quality seemed cheap. Really upset we ended up paying $50 for such a terrible dinner. Please don't waste your money here!

Recently tried this out for the first time and loved our food and experience here. The bar set up and dining area is very nice, great ambiance. We tried a little bit of everything.Loaded fries - loved the toppings, fries themselves were OKTacos - awesome options, food tasted delicious, came out quicklyEmpanadas - perfectly fried and very tastyDrinks - margarita was great, sangria was on the weaker side/very fruity, but to each their own!Overall, I’m very much looking forward to going back!

Do not come to this restaurant. My friends and I wanted to try it because it was close to our homes, but the tacos were below average. We got 2 dinner specials and 2 tacos (amounting to $36). The worst part was that they overcharged us $20+ on the bill, but we didn't realize until after we paid. When I called the owner to request a refund, he was very rude and started making all kinds of excuses as to the cost of bill - saying that certain tacos were a dollar extra. Even if all the tacos we got were $1 extra, it would not have amounted to our bill. From reading past reviews, it's clear that this restaurant has a pattern of overcharging customers. It's also evident that they're not getting any business. The restaurant was empty when we went there. The owners should not be running a restaurant if they need to overcharge customers in order to keep it going - this is very unethical and they do not deserve to be supported.

Editing this to say that they overcharged us (charged us for the dinner special and as 3 sep tacos for one order)! Didn't realize until after we paid unfortunately. Changed review to reflect. Went here with some friends on a Wednesday evening. I got the dinner special (3 tacos). We were excited to try a place nearby. When we arrived, the place was mostly empty and we were just told to sit wherever (which is fine). Tacos weren't anything awe inspiring. Nice to see a local place, would maybe go for a quick bite again but have some other taco places on LI I prefer. 2.5/3

First time eating here and the food was great! I did not go inside so I'll update the review once I can say more :) However, the Hawaiian taco was delicious! A generous amount of steak topped off with bang bang shrimp.. I opted out of the fried onions because a lil allergy but I'm sure that's good too. I would ask for extra lettuce to replace that for my next order. The bacon cheeseburger taco was also a win win for those who can't choose between a burger or taco night! Another great thing is there's gluten free & vegetarian options.
