We wanted to eat at this restaurant before heading to the nearby hike to Poet’s Ledge. We pulled up outside, waiting to meet a friend, when a man came outside and asked us why we were trespassing on his private property (we were on a public road, not private property). We said we wanted to eat at the restaurant. He told us the restaurant was closed and then later in a very threatening tone said, “if you cross my property one more time, I’m going to do something about it.” (Again, we were on a public street.) I can’t speak to the food here, but based on this experience I don’t ever want to find out.

The food is as good as you will get anywhere, maybe better.

All food is made to order. The specials are superb. The view of the waterfall from the deck is spectacular. The crowd is eclectic and friendly. The inside dining room is especially cozy in winter. The bistro bar is reasonably priced. Go play some darts!

We have driven by their sign in Palenville for 25 years as we headed up towards Hunter, NY, and finally decided to give it a try. Booked a table for 4 at 7:30. Decour is 1950s throwback and it feels more like someone's parlor than a public space. When we arrived we saw 4 tables seated, but they were in a state of disarray and explained the kitchen was backed up. We enjoyed some wine on the deck (served by the glass- no bottle service) until about 8:15. While we waited 2 non-reservation groups were turned away because they had "no food". Placed our orders from the deck- they had only 5 of entree choices available. The owner/manager came by several times to apologize and waitress could not have been more nice. Food was delicious (chicken piccata and chicken marsala) - on balance worth the wait for the experience and ambiance. Unique feel among all dining venues for 20+ miles. BOOK AHEAD!

We were staying in a rental about 50 yards from the restaurant and based on the 4 star rating gave it a chance. It was an overall "meh". Good things: patio dog friendly creekside setting is charming. Bartender brought our dog water. Eggplant parm tasty. Veal dish good. Kitchen accommodating for the extra anchovy request with the Caesar salad. Challenges: The staff were stretched way too thin - perhaps the hostess and bus boy didn't show up - there was one waitress trying to do everything from seating to setting service to waiting tables. Husband said house wine pretty common. No wine list. Failures: eggplant parm was cold inside. I don't know what their normal prep process is, but this was being re heated from the refrigerator and was served warm on outside and cold inside. The waitress took it back for microwaving. Finally hot but now mushier. Simple quality control would have a thermometer check before serving to guests.

Funky, funky place and the staff make you feel like you are in their home. They have a deck overlooking a waterfall which is amazing. Inside the food was super. We had the house salad, chicken cordon bleu, shrimp scampi (with unusual paprika sauce) all cooked perfectly and very reasonably priced. This place is off the beaten path but worth discovering.
