Union Block Italian at the Landing

Union Block is an Italian restaurant located in the heart of Penn Yan.

The staff were friendly and accommodating to requests, and brought the food out in a timely manner. The decor is nice, perfect for casual dining or a birthday.

The food was alright. We got the garlic bread, fried calamari, and a few of the pastas to try. The garlic bread was definitely a highlight, with it tasting pretty good and crisp. The Fried calamari was good, pretty standard as other Italian restaurants are. The pastas were good, though some of the sauces could've been better.

Overall, a nice Italian spot to try.

We’ve enjoyed this restaurant on multiple occasions in the past. My daughter has only ever had one entrée from here, and she was very much looking forward to enjoying it again tonight. However, something has dramatically changed with the quality of the food here. My son enjoyed his chicken parm and my baked rigatoni, while it wasn’t baked, it was decent. The house made meatball was tough and not fresh though. My daughter and husband had chicken scampi and it was inedible. Literally no flavor or seasoning. They described it as pasta in pasta water with unseasoned shrimp. The manager did try to make it right by bringing scampi sauce , since their dishes didn’t have any, but the sauce they brought wasn’t good either and didn’t improve the dish. Both pushed their plates away and couldn’t eat it. Again, the manager made it right and didn’t charge for the scampi dishes. Since we’ve been here before and had these same dishes, we expected the quality to be much better than what we got.

I did watch the manager use his bare hands to pull garlic bread from the warming drawer. Other employees used the tongs, but I watched him use his bare hands.

Service was almost non existent due to a large group at the neighboring table. It took 15+ minutes to get anyone to acknowledge us to get our check.

Sadly, tonight’s experience was so bad that we won’t be back.

First time here. Very busy on pasta night but Lydia, our waitress, and other staff stayed on top of service. Lydia was friendly & positive despite also working the bar. The atmosphere was cozy. LOVED the rolls with fresh roasted garlic!! Also enjoyed our chicken pamesean and lobster ravioli. Will definitely be back!

Great service and delicious food on our visit for dinner. Only complaint was it was too dark in the dining area. Very hard to read the menu and see the culinary delights the kitchen created!

I’ve been to a lot of restaurants we were looking forward to this one for my mother in laws birthday the food was OK but the service on the other hand was terrible and the waitress questioned the additional tip I left I her on top of the gratuity already on the over 200 dollar bill for 4 people never have I been to an establishment and been disrespected like that think twice before you go there the manager and owners response when I said something to him was no need to make a scene I told him I wasn’t and I was just going to go wait in the car while my family finished dinner his response was “GOOD”

I have eaten here a few times over the years. Food is consistently excellent. Last week I ordered the orecchiette with bolognese sauce which was outstanding. I look forward to going back on my next trip to Penn Yan.

Union block is so consistently good !! Sauce is great... love choosing my pasta type to go with long or short sauce. Salads and entrees are generous portions but not huge. Wait staff is friendly and attentive. Drinks are not skimpy either. Price is fair and desserts are very good!! I have been eating here for quite a few years and have never been disappointed. Well done, Josh !

Parking: Food was excellent including Calamari. The wine by the glass was so reasonable, $9 a glass and we were able to hang at Upstate Brewing next door for a pint of fab beer before our dinner!!! Outside seating by Kuika Lake a bonus!!!
