I don't do a lot of reviews but wanted others to know that we had a great dinner meal here. As the name suggests, it's a family type menu. We had open face turkey with dressing and gravy over bread, and a chopped steak with onions and gravy. Both were excellent. Real hand carved turkey (not thin deli meat). Nice thick perfectly cooked chopped steak. Portions were just right. Had a nice fresh salad with each. Recommend you give Laura's a try!

French toast was wonder bread. Food was overall inedible. We were the only ones there for Sunday brunch which should have been a clue.

My boyfriend and I were recently in town for the day for a friend's wedding and were looking for a nice place to have lunch while we waited to be able to check in our hotel. We found Laura's Family Restaurant via Yelp and were excited to try a homestyle restaurant that you can't always find in NYC. We were very lucky to have stumbled upon this local gem! The food and service were excellent and it was exactly what we were looking for that day. We both ordered the homemade, made-to-order fried chicken tenders which were fantastic. The real star of our meal, however, was the pasta salad with its perfect al dente texture and family recipe flavor. Everything we ate was cooked to order and delicious. This place was great and we wish them all the best!

We picked this place because of the 4.4 rating. It was definitely not to that standard. The chicken we got was flavorless and tough. Only the peppers on top gave it flavor. My mashed potatoes came with gravy on them, when I had asked for it on the side. The server told me the cook didn't read her notes but she could bring me a spoon to scoop it off! It didn't make much difference because they also lacked flavor and the gravy was over salty. The worst part was when we went to pay she said there would be a surcharge if we wanted to use a credit card. This is not stated anywhere on the menu or anywhere else. We also were not told what the surcharge would be. Our receipt just showed total amount due - no breakdown of charges. This was not an inexpensive meal and it was very disappointing.Parking: It's in a strip mall. Spots right in front of restaurant are 15 minute only.

We tried this restaurant because it had a decent rating. It did not live up to it. We both got chicken and it was tough and had no flavor. The only real flavor were the peppers that were on top which were over cooked. I selected the mash potatoes and asked for the gravy on the side. When it was served, the gravy was on top. The server told me the cook didn't read her notes, but she could bring me a spoon and I could scoop it off! It didn't matter as the mash potatoes were not very good and the gravy was over salted. When it came time to pay, we were told that there would be a surcharge if we wanted to pay by credit card. This 'surcharge" was not listed on the menu and I didn't see it anywhere else either. We weren't told what the surcharge would be and when the bill came out, it only showed the total amount due with no break down of charges. It was not inexpensive either! I would not recommend this place.

The worst service and food in a long time. They were out of most dishes. What they had fish and shrimp was low quality and tasted like it was frozen supermarket grade food. I had to wait almost an hour. I could have cooked better food in that amount of time myself. It was nasty and overpriced. The quality of food would make me think that Chef Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares needs to visit this, because they don't care about repeat business or the customer experience. I would assume Any good review of this place at this point is fake. Or they changed chefs and the new chef should be nowhere near a kitchen.

I should have listened to the reviews that said this was bad. The food is awful. The waitress was nice but this food was so sad. The photos of food looked good but what you get looks nothing like their professional scam photos. My visiting family went here and got the ponderosa, salmon, a sandwich. Cod fish, and the shrimp. It was like cafeteria grade food. The ponderosa isn't "thin steak" it is like roast beef sandwich meat with gravy cheese and onion. So gross and for $19. The salmon was nothing like photos, it looked like the tiny prebacked frozen grocery store bulk salmons. It was the but end of a tail 1/4" thick and maybe 4". They probably bought it from the Price Chopper. $22.The shrimp were ok, but tasted frozen precooked, and the portion size would be worth $10 not $18. The cod fish were like codfish bites. The restuarant was empty but they were out of 1/2 the menu and sides, their was only 1 other customer, but it took 45 minutescto get food.I was going to get potato salad but they were out so as a side I got the macaroni salad and had to send it back. It was orange and tasted like someone dumped an entire jar of turmeric powder in it, and it made me wonder if the photo salad would have been the same.I would NEVER come back here again. Had to spend over $130 on a meal that was awful. Not one person liked their food.We were saying we should have just gone to the Five Guys. I hate complaining and sending stuff back, and my husband said he was willing to just pay and never come back, but I honestly wanted to send all the food back and just leave. A dining experience shouldn't make you mad at how gross the food is.My 14 year old said it was so gross that he hopes he doesn't get food poisoning after this...People eating here were 10, 14, 32, 38, 76 ,78. Not one person liked their food and thought for the quality (lack of) it was way over priced. The elderly people said "we should have gone to Cracker Barrel, it would have been better."The photos the restuarant posted are either fake or it was a previous chef/owner because they look nothing like you get.My husband chose this place based off of reviews and online photos, I feel duped and will NEVER EVER COME BACK. It was so awful I am now wary that if this is what Poughkeepsie considers good food I am scared to eat anywhere else or trust the reviews. Texas Roadhouse down the street felt like fine dining when compared to the disgusting garbage pile of a restaurant. Maybe the liquor store next door is the reason it has a good raiting. They get trashed and have no taste buds.PLEASE TAKE MY ADVICE AND SKIP THIS PLACE. go somewhere like Mill House brewing company.I completly regret coming here.

One star for the ambiance, one for our server, 1for the fish. It's my fault, when I first saw it, I should have sent it back for one that wasn't cooked to death. See the photos. Considering how thin the patties were a few seconds in the fryer or sauté pan would have been sufficient. The mashed potatoes were good. High point of the whole meal. Would i go back? Not unless someone else was paying. The place was full for the tail end of the lunch time.

Friendly, fast service. Great vibe, decorations, music. Extensive menu, prepared exactly as described. We felt welcome, made comfortable, and the food was delicious! Thank you, Laura's!

Very disappointing. Being lactose intolerant I specifically look for items to order with out dairy on the menu. First time in the restaurant I had a wonderful experience, I asked the waitress is there cheese on this item into which she replied I don't know is it on the menu? So of course on my recent trip why should I bother to ask? Well to my surprise our clams had cheese (not listed on the menu) and my wingwich also had cheese ( not listed on the menu ) I bring this to the waitress attention she apologies politely and I understand this is not their fault a waitress should not have to ask do they want cheese on their clams or sandwich. But your apathy is what is worse. You could care less if I was allergic I could have went into shock gone to the hospital a potential lawsuit? Like wow as someone who worked in service industry management for 6 years if one of my customers experienced something like this I would have been bending over backwards to ensure the rest of their experience was phenomenal but we couldn't even get a 5 dollar discount to show a little sympathy. Will not be returning to this establishment and I recommend everyone do the same.

We were visiting the area and thought a nice local restaurant would be good. It had 4.5 stars but I did not read the reviews. The staff was wonderful. The meatloaf was burned on top and almost flavorless, I think the mashed potatoes were boxed, they were not good. They ran out of milk, the coffee was cold "the warmer was broken" Not worth the price.

Our waitress was the best. I like honest people and she definitely was. We weren't in a hurry so the fact that the food was made to order was really alright with us. We had baked clams & pasta Alfredo. They were nice & good portion size.

Great food great service it was as if my mother was in the kitchen cooking. The Galveston sandwich was perfect. Real onions in the onion rings. Real baked potato. Ariana was a wonderful server. Quality food at a great value.
