I can’t recommend Upstream Cafe enough! The food is so flavorful!
I want to say the food was the highlight because it’s sooooo good but it’s also family owned and operated by the nicest folks, and the restaurant was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated, so it’s altogether a fantastic place. We got the jerk chicken, shrimp Rasta pasta, and a whole snapper. The portions are large - our to go bags were super heavy :) My kid and I agree it’s the most delicious food we’ve had on our trip so far.

I stopped by Upstream Café while on a short trip to Poughkeepsie, and this was certainly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had dining at a Caribbean restaurant. Sherwin, the owner, and her husband were incredibly welcoming and treated us to some truly delicious food, all while sharing their amazing journey in the restaurant business. It was an experience I’ll never forget, and I highly recommend anyone to give their food and warm hospitality a try. I will certainly go back again anytime I am in Poughkeepsie.

The family that runs this cafe is very friendly and welcoming. My partner and I ordered the Jerk Chicken Wrap and the Chicken Caesar Salad and both were really delicious. The jerk chicken they use is really flavorful and tender, with a mild-medium spiciness. We also ordered a Kiwi Lemonade and a fresh Sorrel Ginger juice and both were extremely tasty and refreshing. The juice was especially unique, with a bit of that fresh ginger burn that can be really difficult to find in ginger beverages. All in all, I will definitely be coming back the next time I’m in the area!

The vibe of the restaurant was great and The food was delicious. I recommend the curry shrimp or curry chicken roti meal. The pineapple ginger juice was also great. The Jamaican bread for the table was another great part of the meal. Hospitality was wonderful, Shereen and Garfield were great and we really enjoyed the experience. Would highly recommend to anyone.
