Do yourself a favor, if you have a layover in Albany, walk 5 minutes outside the station to Son of Egg for a quick bite and you will have a far better experience than rude staff, and soggy fridge sandwiches :( :( :( plus the walk and fresh air is great after a long train ride!

Our train stopped so had time to get a hot beverage. Ordered a London Fog Latte. The staffer at the register was a little gruff, and frustrated with my order, but the Barista made it perfectly, with lavender, vanilla and extra foam.

The seating area was reasonably clean. There were plenty of other food and drink optioins.

Did a great job getting people through the line, important when your time is limited

On my 8 hour train ride, there is a stop at Rensselaer. There’s a small market with chips, candy and drinks, etc but for food there’s only the Grind and Brew. The prices are fair, especially considering the monopoly they have. The service is incredibly fast, which is necessary when you have limited time before your train leaves. It is always tidy. Most of the sandwiches are premade to keep the line moving quickly. You grab them yourself from the cooler. Today I had the grilled chicken salad wrap. It wasn’t awful, but… If there was mayo, I didn’t see or taste it. Lots of lettuce. A little chicken. See photo. I normally get take out from Panera or Subway before I board the train, which I recommend, so there’s some substance to my meal. After eating the wrap, I was still hungry.

Friendly, helpful staff went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. The store offers lots of sandwiches, salads, snacks and beverages. Plenty of easy and open seating. A great addition to the station. Be sure to try it.

5 star brownies!!! Can't speak on much else. My bagel experiences have been pretty positive but I basically have only ever gotten that and the brownies... I am really a fan of the brownies. They are fast with the bagels too which is appreciated. Prices seem decent to me compared to everything else nowadays. Two brownies and a bagel with cream cheese was $10.27. Workers have been nice to me.

Writing this in hopes they read this and make changes.1. Tuna sandwiches are soggy. The bread was wet. Don’t let it sit around. Make these to order.2. Coffee is extremely expensive. 3.50 for a small. Why? It’s the biggest seller. You can lower prices on this.3. Mac and cheese is over cooked and soggy. Just gross. Way too soft. Very basic. Add some flavor.4. Prices in general are extremely high. A tuna sandwich and soda is 14 bucks?!5. You have the same menu and never change it. It’s boring and basic. Change it up.6. Great staff. Nick and Nate are awesome. Pay them a livable wage.7. Just had a salad. Why are you putting croutons in the salad? That makes them soggy. Keep them separate so they stay crunchy.

While waiting to board my train, it was suggested by staff to use the time to grab something to eat, so I asked simply for a buttered roll ( you know, a hard roll) in which I was charged $3!! When I boarded and opened the bag, it was a small sized toasted HAMBURGER BUN!!! If I wasn’t already on train, I would have went back and demanded a refund!! I will never visit that establishment again!! Shame on them!!! Disappointing to say the least….check your bag before you leave the counter people!!! You will be ripped off if you don’t!!!

I know travelling by train, possibilties for food are very limited and this station is the only one where you could get some, but please AVOID this at all costs if possible. My experience here was really bad I was on a long journey from Chicago to Boston, wanted to experience this journey by train. Amtrak Cafe car did not have many options for me and I was very underprepared for how long this journey is. So, I was looking at food options near Albany Amtrak station but with the limited stop time I had getting some food in the station was the only possibility. I should have brought some chips or cookies but instead opted for a coffee and 2 Sandwiches from the HOT menu hoping it would be atleast a bit better than Amtrak Cafe but I would take cafe food anyday over this. The coffee was warm and the sandwiches were cold along with the meat and everything like tomotes and lettuce cost more(mention that extra price in menu) please be aware of this. So, I was charged 30 bucks for 2 cold sandwiches and a stale coffee. A long train ride with very limited options for food and holding on to hope that I would get some good food after a long time made this experience very bad. Please be prepared unlike me and if not get some chips or cookies.

very slow service, ordered a bacon egg and cheese and waited over 45 minutes for it with multiple reminders and never got it before I had to get back on the train.
