From the very first tasting to the last bite on our wedding night, our experience with Christopher Michael catering was extraordinary. We wanted our dinner to feel like a Michelin-star-rated experience, and they delivered that and more.
Our guest are still talking about the hors d'oeuvres passed around during cocktail hour. As the bride, I unfortunately did not get to enjoy that hour between pictures and getting ready for our entrance into the reception, but Matt thinks of all that, and every time I turned around there was a plate for my husband, wedding party and I waiting. The lobster rolls were my favorite. They were very popular amongst our guest as well.
The French-style service was flawless. The food came out piping hot and our guest really enjoyed being able to eat a little of each meat brought out. They didn't have to pick an entree; they were served everything! They were able to eat the chicken, tuna, AND steak if they wanted! The dishes were bursting with flavor.
One thing that truly sets them apart is their gift for hospitality. Each server and bartender treated our guests with warmth and professionalism. I had a cocktail on my table every time I turned around with fresh ice. Although, I didn't get to drink much lol.
I would love to comment on my communication with them; however, I eventually hired wedding planners to take care of that on my behalf. They did mention that Christine is very professional and easy to communicate with. Before I brought them on though, Matt was very quick to return any calls and even did a house visit during one of my pre-wedding panic attacks to assure me that he had it!
If you're looking for a caterer who elevates food and brings genuine heart to their work, Christopher Michaels catering is it! I will 100% recommend them and use them for any future celebrations. Thank you, Matt, and team!
Highly recommend Matt Kar and his team at Christopher Michael Catering! They were extremely professional and super easy to work with! Matt Kar is so understanding and accommodating which really helped to make our wedding less stressful! They definitely went above and beyond for our wedding and we couldn’t be happier with their service! Their food is phenomenal and so delicious!! Compared to other caterers in the area the pricing was great especially for how much they offer and do for you! We would not have been able to have a wedding on the East End if we didn’t have Christopher Michael Catering helping us! We’re so grateful for them and they truly made our wedding day even more special!
Christopher Michael Catering has the best food and service on the Northfork. They catered our wedding at Brecknock Hall in Greenport on July 30, 2022 and our guests are all still raving about the quality and service. Our menu was delicious and everyone loved the French-style service. No one expected to try everything on the menu and they were delighted they were able to!Matt Kar and his team are extremely helpful throughout the planning process as well as hard working during the event. We were impressed by Matt as the chef and owner took time to answer questions and was amazing every step of the way. We loved that he was the chef on our event and his team was incredibly dedicated to make our day the very best! We highly recommend Christopher Michael Catering!
This is a long review, but if you’re considering hiring Christopher Michael Catering for your event, or even eating at the Dimon Estate, I recommend you read the whole thing. The short version is that we booked them for our wedding in 2022, but they were disorganized, then incredibly rude and greedy, and ultimately cancelled everything on us a few months before our wedding date, with no reasonable explanation, apology, or compensation. Here’s the story: we booked Jamesport Manor/Dimon Estate in June 2021 and were so excited to get married there. Fast forward to May 2022 and a sound ordinance was passed in the town of Riverhead that made it very difficult for them to host events. This led them to cancel the venue for all couples in summer 2022– but they promised to still cater at a discounted rate and provide rentals, as well as help everyone find new venues. We rebooked a new venue that they suggested and proceeded as planned. Then, they canceled everything else (catering, rentals, bathrooms, etc) on us a few weeks later. The excuse was that a chef quit, so they did not have enough staff. But catering and rentals were not cancelled for any other couples (I know because I joined a FB group with many of the other affected brides), and when we called to talk to Matt Kar, he basically told us that we had no right to ask any questions and that we shouldn’t be upset— because while we were losing a wedding, he was losing his business. Our wedding planner and new venue also asked questions, but Matt evaded them as well. We tried to ask for just the rentals (sans catering) since the chef was the issue, but Matt refused.Well, a little bit of internet sleuthing, and I found social media posts by another couple and their photographer from September 2021, indicating that they were looking forward to their wedding day next year, at Jamesport Manor, on our exact same wedding date. I also found posts from their wedding (on our same date), at a new venue from the list Matt provided, that tagged Christopher Michael Catering as their caterer (and rentals provider based on the photos). In other words, it’s very clear that they were double booked on our date for at least one year prior, and that Christopher Michael catered the other wedding at a new venue. We have not been given any reasonable explanation from Matt Kar, but I can only assume that they made a mistake and then chose the more lucrative wedding to cater, then tried to cover it up by making up an excuse about their chef quitting. We were first ignored, then berated and yelled at by Matt Kar for asking very reasonable questions over the phone. We received no compensation and almost had to cancel our wedding— but thanks to incredible kindness of some new vendors, we pulled off a wonderful (albeit significantly more expensive) wedding!Matt Kar, while admittedly a good chef, is a disorganized mess with poor communication skills, who will not make an effort to help you or be reasonable if it’s not beneficial to him. And while Dimon Estate is owned by Matt’s son now, I also hold him responsible. We dined at the restaurant and got a long, personal tour from Matt’s son just a few weeks before the first cancellation email, at which point it had been clear for months that they would likely need to cancel weddings for the summer. And yet, no one said a word. I assume this was because they didn’t want to nullify contracts and lose money until they knew for sure that they would not be able to host weddings (but this was at the expense of all the couples who had to replan weddings at the last minute). All it would have taken for us to let it go was a sincere apology and admission of their mistake, but we never received that from anyone. I hold the entire family/business responsible and recommend you do not trust them or give them your money.
They catered my son's wedding at The Bates house. What a professional hard working crew of people. The food was phenomenal, the service was perfection, the staff was friendly and polite. Not a detail was missed. Thank you for making it a magical day.
From our first interaction Matt Kar was professional and caring. He answered any of our questions or concerns in a timely manner. The majority of tasks and requests we had were expertly handled by him and his staff. The catering manager, Christine, was extremely detail oriented and made sure we were comfortable and happy with everything at the wedding. She went above and beyond to ensure the day went smoothly with minimal input needed from us the day of. The onsite staff, especially Jaclyn and Trisha, were incredible, frequently checking in with myself and my husband to ensure we had anything we might need. For guests with allergies, all the staff were vigilant and would make sure there were items to offer them that they could enjoy. We used the French Style service, many of our guests are still raving about the variety and how delicious everything was. We used Christopher Michael for all of the rentals as well. They did a beautiful job with the entire event.
Wow, words cannot express our gratitude for the AMAZING job by Matt Karr and his entire staff for our wedding at The Old Field on June 23rd, 2018. I booked Christopher Michael Catering 10 months in advance of the date. This was on the early side but I did not want to risk losing out on what would be our centerpiece vendor for the entire event. Matt was so easy to work with from day one. I had initially solicited all the major catering vendors on the North Fork. Matt was far and away the most organized and responsive of everyone I reached out to. I had full menus and price lists within a day and he answered all questions right away. His menus were so good! He had great options for every palate, with very fair pricing and great add on options such as the raw bar and lobster rolls. When we met in person, he put all our concerns to ease. He’s been doing large events and weddings for decades now and knows all the venues, other vendors, etc. I was struggling to find a tent vendor who could provide what we wanted, his suggestion “just call Bobby over at American Tent, tell him I sent you” was perfect! Not only did the team at American Tent deliver a beautiful Sail Cloth tent at a fraction of the cost of the other vendors, I had peace of mind knowing that Matt, who helped me plan all the final details, knew the other vendors very well and would step in if I needed assistance. In deciding our menu for the event, Matt hosted us for a delicious dinner at the Manor where we got to sample all sort of dishes to get a taste for his quality and vision. Everything we tasted was perfect. Picking the menu after that was a breeze (filet mignon with horseradish dill sauce, chicken and lemon capers, pesto ravioli, raw bar, etc.) Months later we still have friends telling us it was hands down the BEST wedding food they’ve ever had. In addition to the food, Matt and his team went above and beyond, essentially filling in as assistant wedding planners and coordinators. He provided me with sample timelines for the day as well as how he likes to coordinate with the other vendors to ensure the entire event runs smooth from start to finish. His event manager, Cynthia, seemed to be everywhere at once the entire day of my wedding. She was at my Mom’s and Day of Coordinator’s sides for much of the event, taking care of everything before it could even be asked. She knew exactly where and when for every detail, beyond just the food, working with the DJ, photographers, etc. The serving staff was also amazingly professional and courteous. I went with French style service so food came out on platters and was served to each person HOT! So many people were shocked that everything was fresh and hot, the timing and prep was perfect. I can’t imagine my day without their entire team. Every single one of them went above and beyond all our expectations to deliver the wedding of our dreams. To anyone looking for the perfect caterer for your event, Matt and Christopher Michael is your answer.
