WOW! I was looking for a place in the area to host a family dinner prior to a wedding weekend. Jerry and the Mermaid popped up online. I emailed and from the moment I made contact with Jerry, I felt that it was going to be a good choice. I could not have been more right. Jerry was not only easy to work with, but everything was perfect, and I mean perfect. He understood that we had one or two special needs and his answer was always "whatever you need we will take care of you." Every email ended with "I look forward to cooking for you and your guests." Now let me tell you about the actual night.....Unbelievable. How many owner/chefs come out to check on you five times (or maybe more, I lost count) during a two hour dinner? Jerry did. And the food??? OMG....everything from start to finish was incredible! The flat iron steak melted in your mouth and the flavor was mouthwatering! Everyone at my dinner, whatever they ate, said their dinner was incredible. Even the most critical of my guests (there is always one) gave it a thumbs up and said she would go back again. The service....impeccable. Our servers were there at every turn and anticipating my guests needs ahead of time. I cannot recommend Jerry and the Mermaid highly enough and I can't wait to dine there again. Thank you, Jerry!!!!!

It was our first time going after hearing so many wonderful things, and we will 100% be back! Excellent service (thank you, Kim) and amazing food. Their New England Clam Chowder absolutely lives up to the hype, and their baked clams are delicious. The swordfish was a game changer, and I’m glad it was permanently put onto the menu. This is the first time in a long time that me and my boyfriend got appetizers, entrees, and desserts and ate it all COMPLETELY. Very full, and very happy. Also love that the owner and his son checked on us numerous times throughout the night. Overall, wonderful place! Definitely come here!!

I went to this restaurant for the first time this evening. I work in the area and was looking for a nice place to have dinner with my husband after a hard day of work. It was easy to find. It is located next to the Hotel and the Riverhead Aquarium. It is a really cute looking building with a dockside view. We dined in and were not disappointed. The waitresses were friendly and we were seated promptly. Our drinks were sent promptly and were made properly. The food was well seasoned and hot. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice restaurant in the area.
Vegetarian options: They have salads here. If you are trying to have vegetarian dishes there are some dishes that can be purchased without meat, fish, or poultry.
Parking: They have parking in the rear of the restaurant but there isn’t much space there. You can plan on street parking if the restaurant is full. There is also a nearby parking lot and a paid public parking area near by. You may have to walk a couple of blocks but you can still make it.
Kid-friendliness: There were families at the restaurant with their children. They have a kids menu and are welcoming. The tables have plenty of space.
Wheelchair accessibility: You can make it into the restaurant if you come off the street. The parking lot has pebbles and you may not be able to easily get from your car in a wheel chair to the restaurant.

Was in the area for apple picking and need somewhere to have dinner. No complaints. Our servers were attentive, food came out rather quickly. Moderately priced food. The food was tasty, nothing special and nothing not special. It did the trick. The waffle fries were my favorite: the perfect amount of crunchy. Can’t go wrong with this restaurant.

I really had high expectations for this place given all the positive reviews, but unfortunately I was let down in many ways. First, I was seated in a less than ideal spot and when I asked to move I was told there was nothing else available despite having made a reservation weeks ago. Second, there was an odor in the restaurant. Third, the food itself was subpar. I don’t eat shellfish so I am more limited. I got the seared tuna and it was very underwhelming. Worst part was the vegetables it came with tasted like frozen vegetables. I know I am not the only one who feels that way because I have seen others comment and the restaurant responds something like, “We should know we cut the vegetables ourselves.” Sure… then why are so many other people commenting they taste like they’re frozen? Oh and to cap all this off, someone was vomiting in the bathroom.
Very nice, cozy restaurant near the water. It was very busy, but we got a table in no time and were served our food within minutes. I was very impressed with the service and staff at this place. The food was excellent too—I love their fries and the Beyond Meat burger was excellent as well. Definitely recommend!
