My family and I stopped by Snowflake Ice Cream Shoppe on a sunny afternoon and were absolutely delighted! From the moment we walked in, the nostalgic, old-school ice cream parlor vibe was charming—bright neon sign, lots of flavor choices, and friendly staff who were genuinely excited to help.

I went with a waffle cone of their hard-style ice cream (you can tell it's made on­site using rich ingredients). The flavor I got — Cherry Pistachio — was outstanding: the pistachio base was smooth and nutty, the cherries added a perfect burst of flavor, and it all felt premium rather than just “flavored.” Their rotating “Flavor of the Week” also caught our eye.

The rest of our group got sundaes and soft serve, and everyone was thrilled. Portions were generous, service was quick even though it was busy, and the parking lot was straightforward. The shop has been around since 1953 and still uses original recipes, so it feels like a place that cares about quality and tradition.

Try to go a little before peak evening hours if you want less wait.
Ask for a taste of a flavor if you’re undecided (they were happy to accommodate us).
Don’t skip the sorbets in summer or the specialty weekly flavors — they change and are creative.

Bring a little extra cash for parking or snacks — but overall prices felt very fair for what you get.

Overall, if you’re ever in the Riverhead area and craving ice cream, Snowflake is a must-stop. High quality, welcoming atmosphere, and memorable flavors. I’ll definitely go back next time!

One of the best Ice cream shops you will ever go to!

Late Sunday afternoon I was in the mood for a handmade, solid ice cream milk shake. Strawberry is my favorite but that’s just a personal preference. A quick google search lead me to Snowflake Ice Cream Shoppe which had solid reviews. The BLUF, the shake was good; not the best I’ve ever had but a reasonable priced hand made milkshake. The only downside was the wait. I arrived with only one elderly couple in front of me and was pleasantly surprised to think it possible to order and have my treat in less than five minutes…a rare occurrence on a nice Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the manager and the elderly couple were in a conversation about who knows who and who’s doing what where. The manager literally talked with these folks for ten minutes oblivious to his other customers patiently waiting in line. I became so annoyed at the disrespect that I began making facial gestures and body clues that this treatment was unacceptable. Fortunately another worker came out of the back and took my order. As for the manager, he carried on with his reunion right up to the point where I walked out the door. So to sum it up, good ice cream and a clueless manager.

The ice cream here was good, though the prices felt a bit steep for the quality. My only real critique is with the service — the servers were trying a little too hard to be playful, which came across as more annoying than enjoyable. A friendlier but more straightforward approach would make the experience much better.
