One of my fondest memories of Salamanca. My Dad always fondly called the place "Cheap John's" and was a regular. Just awesome, home-cooking and watching the cook, the late Bob Fish (and his Dad before him) was watching a master chef, managing 20-30 orders at the same time and never once getting one wrong. He was properly described as on of the best short-order cooks of the region. My favorite was the meat loaf special. "Temporarily closed" now, but I hope...
After going to touristy places with restaurants like this, it makes me realize how good this place is. They just do everything good. The breakfasts are great as are the lunches. Try the bo burger, you won't be disappointed. They don't take cards so bring cash. The only downside is that during covid, they are only open M-F till 1230.
It has been 3 years, but this is the most memorable diner ever. I want to return before I die or before they close up shop. To watch the owner/cook was like watching a symphony. No credit cards. Food is great. Service is as well. They just don't make them like this anymore.
