This brunch spot is absolutely stunning—both inside and out. The aesthetic is modern industrial with rustic ranch touches, and it’s done beautifully. We sat outside on the patio, which overlooked the dam and water. The views were serene and the sound of the water made for such a calming, tranquil brunch. The indoor space is just as gorgeous, so you can’t go wrong either way.
Service was fantastic—we were seated right away, and every staff member we interacted with was warm and friendly. We were celebrating a bachelorette brunch, and the staff went out of their way to make it special, even helping us take photos which we really appreciated.
The drinks were excellent. I had a passionfruit mimosa that was both delicious and so pretty, and my friend ordered a non-alcoholic drink that was equally impressive. We started with the strawberry banana bruschetta toast to share, which was fresh and tasty, and then tried a mix of entrées—the steak and egg sandwich, corn ravioli, and an omelette. Every dish came out beautifully plated and tasted just as good as it looked.
Everything about this place—from the atmosphere, to the service, to the food—was outstanding. Highly recommend, especially for a special occasion brunch!
Amazing spot, great view of the creek, delicious food, fresh ingredients bold flavors, friendly staff
I planned to love this place! But it was just ok. So, I put in the reservation that a) it was an anniversary and b) I have an onion allergy. We arrived and the place was pretty empty. Plenty of staff per customer. We chose to sit outside which was lovely. The hostess was pleasant enough. Our waiter came- very young, eager to get our drink order etc. after perusing I asked if I could have the mocktail with passion fruit juice (which I love) but with a shot, so not a mocktail. He said sure. The drink I got did not have any passion fruit juice in it, and in fact tasted like rosemary which is not my favorite. I couldn’t drink it.
Then i mentioned my allergies and the waiter had not known about it. He seemed really unsure what to recommend so I went inside to chat with the hostess. I just wanted her to alert the manager to help as the waiter (lovely guy) seemed new.
She said we should have put it in the reservation. I said I did. She looked and said “you wrote onion and garlic but you didn’t write allergy.” I said it was in response to a question on your form about allergies. (Also why else would someone write onion and garlic on the reservation?)
She got really flustered/annoyed and said “everything has onions, you should just get a salad if anything.” It was so rude. There are 2 kinds of restaurant people- those that are eager to help with allergies and those that make you feel you don’t have the right to come out at all. She was the latter. She also said the chef went home so there was no one to ask. (What?) When we got back to the table, a sous chef was there. We were able to talk through options and settled on the scallops. They were delicious! They never acknowledged the anniversary (again it’s a question on the form. Why ask if it’s meaningless?) and when we gave the waiter our “free glass of wine” ticket from the hotel, he accidentally charged us anyway.
Overall I have to go with three stars as their system is messy. With an empty restaurant there was NO REASON to make me feel unwelcome. The waiter was attentive but needed more training. Overall, they just need to focus on staff training and this place can be amazing. Look at the view! It was my husband’s birthday and mine this week and our anniversary… and we were ready for a splurge and this ended up being just ok.
For the view alone I would recommend going with the bonus being incredible food and kind staff.
Came here to celebrate a birthday. Black barn is a beautiful venue that has the potential to host weddings and great place for date nights and celebrations. Even though it was a classy setting with views of the dam in the outdoor seating area, they are also very family friendly.
They have a kids menu and their drinks came with cute plastic cartoon straw cups. The $17 option comes with ice cream for the kids too.
This place could have easily gotten 5 stars if the food wasn't all overly salty (even my kids didn't even eat their fries). It's a pity because everything was plated so beautifully. Their octopus appetizer was not fresh and their ahi tuna was overcooked.
When our waiter took our order he didn't ask what our kids wanted to drink even though a drink came with the kids and we were charged $4 for each. They quickly corrected it when we pointed it out but we also had to remind them about the kids'
ice cream (which they mixed up the kids' order too). The waived the cake cutting fee as we had a party of 10.
Nevertheless, it is still a nice place to visit if you want a place with a beautiful atmosphere and also family friendly. The staff were all very friendly and kind.
can sit there with a dog
Most amazing octopus appetizer.
Sometimes the menu descriptions are different than what is served, which felt to me like a surprise -- but which might feel different for you.
Great service! Great food! Great atmosphere!
We hosted an approximately 30 person’s birthday party at this restaurant, services are great, foods are tasty and fantastic, best dining experience. 😋😋😋
We had the most wonderful experience celebrating our best friend’s 50th birthday, and it couldn’t have been more special — thanks in large part to Chris! As part of the Waterside Spa at Diamond Mills, Chris thoughtfully helped curate an unforgettable day for us, and then generously extended his care by coordinating a beautiful dinner at The Black Barn.
From start to finish, every detail was handled with such care and intention. We were given a lovely private room with a stunning view of the waterfall, which made for an incredible backdrop for photos. I was also given the opportunity to personalize and decorate the table, which added such a meaningful touch to the evening.
The staff at The Black Barn — from the warm welcome at the front door to the attentive servers — were gracious, professional, and made us feel so celebrated. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and enjoyed by all.
This entire experience — from the spa to the dinner — was seamless, joyful, and full of special touches that made the celebration truly unforgettable. A heartfelt thank you to Chris and the entire team at both Waterside Spa and The Black Barn for going above and beyond. We can’t wait to return.
We had cheerful, quick, attentive service for dinner. The overall experience was just fine. The view exists, but you have to sit outside along the railing to enjoy it. They have booths along the windows indoors blocking much of the dining room from an outdoor view, but even from the booth you can’t see much. If you’re going for the view, I wouldn’t expect it. The cocktails were ok. The passion fruit one tasted like pure juice. The food was also fine, nothing special and also not bad. Having been to BLACKBARN in NoMad also, we were slightly disappointed with dinner. Maybe our food was coming from the same kitchen doing the events vs being a standalone restaurant. Not sure, something just felt off.

Made reservations for work dinner online, had some appetizers and the rib grilled cheese which was AMAZING, but the most memorable part was our server, Kaitlyn! She was knowledgabe, attentive but didnt hover! She was lovely! I will request her every time!
Went with a large group for a private event. Dinner was served family style. Food was tasty and service was attentive and friendly.
We are still sitting at our table and are having the BEST experience! The food is incredible and Bryan our waiter is the absolute sweetest and created an outstanding experience! It’s my boyfriend’s birthday and one we will never forget! Thank you, Bryan!!!
Pretty rough service experience to be honest. We came in at the tail end of sunday brunch and didnt see a single staff member for about 7 minutes at the host stand. We did confirm with the bartender that they were still open, and he did seat us, but forgot menus. We then may have had a server but the bartender came back for our order. Food was okay at best. I doubt the chef has met a medium rare burger before. Credit to the staff for offering a replacement burger and actually asking if we were happy. Bonus photo of the plastic table sporting a table top wig!
1. I got my daily steps in just trying to find the entrance. They should maybe consider a sign.
2. Service was so slow it was nearly painful.
3. Fries were awful. All 3 of us got fries with our burgers. Burgers were good, fries were rock hard.
All and all overpriced for what we got.
