Traveling through town I stopped to charge my EV and looked for a quick bite while charging. The awning out Front said “good food” so I thought I’d give it a try. I had a fish sandwich and Oh my goodness! It was wonderful. The restaurant is quite unpretentious, not table service but the food was plentiful and prepared to perfection. Friendly staff, good food, inexpensive and fast. If you are hungry, believe the sign “good food”
Yes, it’s fried fish…that’s about it on the menu. But it’s REALLY good fried fish! The key is that they don’t overcook their food. Fish, shrimp fries, onion rings…all cooked to done, not overcooked to hard or rubbery consistency. Light batter is especially good. Fancier places in town but you gotta try this for a lunch stop. It’s excellent! Service also friendly.
We stopped in Skaneateles for a little sight seeing, and to grab lunch. Doug's seemed to be the local "famous" place, so we wanted to give it a try. It was Friday, so they were serving Lobster Bisque as their special. I always say, get the special, it must be good. Ugh, this was not bisque. It was milk soup, with bits of lobster and vegetables that were put through a food processor and dumped in. No salt, had the taste of bad brandy in it, and a film of butter on top. Inedible. I challenge the kitchen staff to eat a bowl and tell me it's good. Also made the mistake of ordering an overpriced lobster roll. Come on folks, this was not a lobster roll. It was pulled lobster that was warmed up on a griddle and put onto a bun that was soaked in garlic butter. Ugh. They need a trip up to Maine to see what a real lobster roll is. My biggest regret was not ordering the fish fry, which they are supposedly known for. It looked good. But I won't be going to try, they scared me away. Beer was cold, that's why it gets 2 stars instead of 1.
In Skaneateles where seagulls fly, dwells the “‘Flounder’ of Doug’s Fish Fry”; his clams, crisp and curled, are best in the world— even codfish applaud drifting by!
Doug’s came highly recommended by a lot of our friends and family. We went today, ordered shrimp po boy sandwich, cup of chowder, grilled salmon with onion rings. Ordering was pretty easy and everyone was very pleasant. We sat down and waited for our name to be called for order, only about 8 min or so. Everything looked very good. Everything was pretty tasty, especially the onion rings. The chowder was very disappointing , it was very watery, no flavor, not much meat or veggies. Don’t recommend chowder. Atmosphere was pleasant and had oldies music playing. Prices were reasonable, except thought $13.47 for just Salmon on was a bit high, and all sides were extra. Would not go out of the way to go here, but if in town, would stop by again, only no chowder.

Great fish fry. Holding to high quality fried fish standards for a long time. The scallops and fried oysters are great too.

Is not kid friendly. Worst experience dining out ever. Will not be back

Good food at good prices. Many of the other restaurants in Skaneateles require reservations, but you can always get a seat at Doug's, but they don't take AMEX.

We ordered, of course, Fish Fry. It was good. I like how there is a variety of sauce to choose from.

This is such a great spot to eat, the prices are reasonable as well. We got a shrimp po’boys and apple fritters it came to around $21. It’s a great spot for a quick bite in the area. The sandwich was good, the apple fritter is delicious! It’s a thick cute apple slice with a whole in the middle, battered, fried, and covered in cinnamon sugar. They’re served hot and were so delicious. I’d come just for that, but the food is great too; they also serve Perry’s ice cream.
Parking: It’s street parking, so either you luck out with a spot, or you may need to park a little further away. We found spots along the lake.
Kid-friendliness: This has a family friendly feel.

I love this place. Haven’t been for two years (live in Florida) and still think about how good the food is. Drove 15 minutes home and it was still fresh. Can’t wait to be back!
Parking: During the summer it is pretty hard to find a parking spot in the back lot
