Terrible grilled chicken sandwich you couldn’t cut with a knife.and cold fries. Sent it back and then had no replacement by the time my companions were finished with entire their meals. I told the waitress never mind
Timeless , family oriented .. 🤍
we waited forever for a table and we waited forever for a meal. A waitress never came over to greet us for like 20 to 25 minutes then at the end she spilled the iced tea all over my pants she offered us a dessert the least she can do then we waited for a server to come long time they blamed it on the changing of the shifts

I’ve frequented the Sherwood Inn/Tavern over the past 25 years or so, and have always truly enjoyed the environment, the food and the beautiful Skaneateles lakeside experience.
Over the years, I use to routinely bring my aging parents to the Sherwood Inn for Sunday brunches and their special occasions. Having grown up in the Syracuse area we always made it a point to visit the Skaneateles community for pleasant lakeside walkabouts finished with refreshing drinks and comforting meals at the Sherwood Inn & Tavern.
I could always count on a sense of familiarity and very pleasant experiences at the Sherwood Tavern. UNFORTUNATELY, apparently all that has changed given the current state of affairs during these crazy times of political turmoil.
During my most recent visit (3/12/25), I was passing through upstate NY on my way back home to Columbus, OH (where I now reside) and decided to stop in for dinner and an overnight stay. A very reasonable overnight stay with $50 dinner voucher and nicely appointed room for $199.
I was having an enjoyable dinner in the tavern sitting eating at the bar that included their classic French onion soup along with their special flank stake carnitas tacos with rice.
VERY SADLY, however the night prematurely ended when three “gentlemen” sat down at the bar and requested FOX News be broadcast on the TV above the bar. I verbalized my objection to the “news/noise” to the bartender but without consideration on her part.
The bartender obliged immediately and tuned in to their request. That was the end of my enjoyable dinner experience at Sherwood Inn/Tavern and will be for all future visits and any personal recommendations indefinitely.
Prior to the three “gentlemen’s” arrival there was mindless golf and football being broadcast on the two TV screens above the bar. Basically, visual noise that really should be removed altogether and replaced with real human interaction and good bartending without TV distractions.
The Sherwood Inn restaurant, tavern and bar has been such a unique and historic experience having withstood the test of time providing great memories to its diverse and loyal patrons and will be a real shame that its history be diminished and distorted by the current political insanity pushed by an individual/administration who could truly care less about your historical success and survival to date.
Unfortunately, it appears Sherwodd has fallen victim to mindless TV junkies who apparently can’t get enough of their insane FOX “News” propaganda outlet at home that they have to addictively consume it when they’re having dinner and drinks at their tavern.
I left the tavern to walk along my the lakefront and process what just happened in one of my favorite places, to eventually return to the inn for my overnight stay for the evening.
The same “three gentlemen” were still sitting in the tavern at the bar intoxicated with their FOX “news” cocktails. I overheard them asking the bartender if she voted for Trump to which she responded….yes. I responded that’s unfortunate and she replied “Well I guess everyone is entitled to their opinions”.
I’m all for opinions and with that I will NEVER frequent Sherwood Inn/Tavern again NOR recommend it, given the lack of character or class exhibited by its staff/bartentder and apparently some of its clientele.
As a physician in private practice, I guess I should possess the same moral and ethical character when it comes to my patient care once Ive been made aware of the individuals political leanings.
Such a sick and sad world we currently live in.

27 and a half years ago, we stayed along with our wedding party at the Sherwood overnight Sept 6, 1997 to Sunday Sept. 7, 1997. We checked in, uneventfully, went to bed exhausted after a long tiring day around 11pm. Sunday morning, the owner/operator/manager, demanded we come out of our room, around 9am, told us to stand here, and began berating us for 'what our wedding party had done the night before'; all unknown to me. Well, come to find out, to our shock after being falsely accused by this person, she had the WRONG wedding party who did what she was accusing me and my newlywed wife about and our wedding party. Needless to say, it was a very negative experience and has been a negative memory now for over 27 years.
I write this as I understand it, the current owner today was the same then, and so accountability, even decades later is important.
Moreover, I also write this NOW and have withheld this for this long out of respect for my uncle who lived for years in the Skaneateles area who has relatively recently passed away, and my parents who have left the area some time ago, and we are also out of the area so that there cannot be any retaliation against immediate family members from the Sherwood.

Potato Leek was little salty but good. Shrimp bisque was fine. Yankee Pot roast and Scrod Christopher were enjoyable.

Been dining there for over 30 years, special occasions and every day meals. First time having bad service in the main dining room. Food was great as usual. But....they were incredibly short staffed, not good for 2 days before Thanksgiving. Two hours into the meal and still waiting for the dessert we cancelled it and left. Told the people at the front desk and they could have cared less. Saw no management all evening. Quite disappointed.

Walkability: Very centrally located in a small village. Beautiful view of the lake.

The Sherwood is not welcoming to vegetarians. There were two menu items starred for vegetarians and one of those was a side salad. The items we ordered were disappointing. Pumpkin gnocchi was old and rubbery, and the primavera was run of the mill. Better for vegetarians is Gilda's four doors away!

My family and I had a fantastic lunch at the Sherwood Inn Restaurant! It was a cold, rainy day and we sat right next the fireplace so it was super cozy and relaxing. Service and food were both excellent! I would highly recommend for people visiting the area and would definitely go back.
