This was our 2nd time at this restaurant. Two years ago, we went not knowing they had lost their liquor license. The food is only fair. This visit, we went assuming their license had been restored because their website indicates they have wine and beer.
When we arrived, it was clear they still do not have their license. The owner/mgr said “I’m sorry, the waitress should have told you when you made the reservation.” I think it was the owner/mgr who took my reservation and she was passing the buck. She told us their license was soon to be restored if NY state gets moving. Remarkably, that is exactly what she said two years ago.
We’re not big drinkers, just a beer or glass of wine with dinner. But I do not like being lied to by a restaurant misrepresenting itself. Their website is misleading. Don’t be fooled.
Tourists in the area, AVOID!
Supposedly this place is under new ownership by “Institute of America Graduate and Chef Michael Nalipi”. Then why is the food so terrible?
My wife ordered the alfredo pasta. We both tried it and it was the most bland, watery alfredo we ever had. I have had frozen alfredo meals 10x better.
The bruschetta appetizer was drowned in balsamic. Dry basil from a shaker was used instead of fresh basil which bruschetta NEEDS.
The dill salmon was the only thing that was fine at this so-called fine-dining establishment. But it was served with unseasoned white rice and zoodles that tasted like they were days old and microwaved.
For their home made desserts, the brownie tasted like it was made from a mix. The peach cobbler was simply disastrous. It was swimming in lukewarm liquid, with the breading submerged and soggy, falling apart in the mouth in an unpleasant way like soggy cereal that had soaked up milk for hours. Where did all this mystery liquid come from? Perhaps it is the liquid from canned peaches poured in, because they certainly tasted like canned peaches.
Then there is the price. If this was real fine dining and edible food, I would not mind paying the price. $25-$30 for entrees of this quality is unacceptable.
Good service, but needs a new chef.
Amazing food and hospitality, with a beautiful view. Lovely people and one of the best French onion soups I've had in a long time.

A very nice place to stop for lunch. A good selection of sandwiches, salads, wraps and soups. Great service and beautiful views from the dining room. The very kind of place you hope to find in the Adirondacks.

This was the first time visiting this restaurant. I believe this is a family owned restaurant. At first when you walk in to the left is a bar sitting area but that was closed due to the restaurant had lost their liquor license. ( Not sure why ?) To the right was the dining area. The entrance is small where you have to wait to be seated. There wasn't a hostess to greet you just who ever walked by that sees you standing there will find a table for you. Ide have to say it is very cozy in the dining area. Like a homey feel like your at your Grandmas house for dinner. The waitress we had was very nice. She understood it was our first time there so we didn't know what to order right away. ( Hopefully she wasn't cursing at us in the back for taking so long. We know we have been in the restaurant business before haha) The menu was confusing. There was a dinner menu that had some appetizers on it and then we were given a bar menu that had other appetizers on it and. The bar menu prices were reasonable. Burgers, wraps, salads, melts. The dinner menu is expensive. The dinners ranged from $26-40. They must not have a soda fountain dispenser because my kids ordered Root beer and it came in bottles so of course if you ask for another one you will get charged again. Some of us ordered steak and I was not to thrilled especially for the price of $38. The steak was a thin cut says ny strip but it was fatty and grisly. The seasoning was tasty. It came with mashed potatoes and 2 asparagus. The mashed potatoes were very luke warm and was very bland. Not creamy. Someone ordered shrimp scampi and it did not look appealing. It came on a bed of rice but since they used a plate the rice was scattered all over and looked watery. Lucky the shrimp was good. On the menu we realized that you could choose pasta or rice but the waitress didn't offer that when our friend was ordering even if she knows what she ordered she should of been asked. At the end of it all we spend almost $300 and left unhappy. Maby we will give it another try but we only visit speculator once a year so probably not. I hope someone else has a better experience.

Had lunch here on a business trip. The outside is a little worse for wear, but the inside is charming. Lovely waitstaff. Food was good, especially the dessert. Can't comment on the rooms as I didn't stay.

Food & drinks: So sad, our family has enjoyed dining here for decades. The last few times the food was so bad. No alcohol served, the broiled fish was so dry & chewy, floating in water, I think I would have enjoyed eating tuna out of a can more than eating that fish. Similar experience with other dinners. The decor is as lovely as always, but major changes are needed in the quality, and especially the preparation of the food.
Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Whenever I go to Speculator that's the place to eat
