Always pass by this place and see a fun menu with seasonal drink, first off the staff don’t look like they really know what they’re doing… but I can get behind that if the coffee is great, unfortunately it’s not I ordered a cappuccino and the sad cup of coffee is what I got, and their “seasonal” drinks literally taste worse than Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. Don’t record their drinks but if you buy coffee beans definitely have a big selection.

Awesome local spot, my new go to coffee shop for purchasing my beans. Great selection and customer service is top tier!

Stopped in here for the first time as it’s right under the 40th street stop and this will now be my go to spot! Their flavored coffees are delicious and having coffee ice cubes to not water down their drinks was awesome! Support small businesses and support this amazing coffee place!

I have walked and ran past this shop a lot and finally stopped by to give it a shot. the place looked very cute but the coffee wasn’t all that. ordered the usual americano and it was a bit on the lighter side and Luke warm. A bit disappointed.

I visited Baruir’s for the first time today and ordered a decaf cappuccino with oat milk. The drink itself was great. Noticed they offer a variety of decaf coffee beans.

What stood out more was a momentary yet unpleasant encounter: when I said “decaf cappuccino,” the barista responded with a sideways head-tilt, a questioning tone (“decaf? cappuccino?”) and a sigh. I asked if there was a problem, and he said no.

The place is clean and in a good spot, but I hope staff can offer more open-minded service to customers who deviate a bit from the norm.

For the good: It's a really cute shop. My boyfriend has gone multiple times and loves the coffee. I'm not a coffee fan, but wanted to join him to get a smoothie bowl since they offer those as well. While the price was pretty great, the good unfortunately ends there.
It didn't look like much fresh fruit was used to make the base or to top the bowl. In a quick 5 minute walk home the acai base was essentially soup and tasted only of banana. The menu doesn't list that it includes banana and yet it is topped with it (I understand that is common but as someone who strongly dislikes the way banana overshadows any other flavor I would've loved the opportunity to ask for it to be left out.) Because the acai gets watery so quickly it's practically only one texture and the granola got really mushy.

TLDR: If you want coffee this is the place for you, but if you want to try out their other side of the menu (several smoothie and acai bowls are listed) I would steer clear. There are much better options in the same area. While my experience was quite poor I'm sticking to 3 stars because my bf really did like his coffee.

Amazing coffee spot, a Sunnyside institution.
The coffee is always freshly roasted, the location is super clean and organized & the staff is super friendly and helpful.

I’ve been buying my beans here for over a decade. High quality, fair prices, it’s a local family-run Sunnyside institution.

I've been going to Baruir to get my pound of French Roasted Colombian (ground at #4 on their grinder) for over 20 years. The look of the place has changed a bit, but the quality of the roast hasn't changed. This place is amazing. Baruir was here decades before Starbucks, and will hopefully be here when Starbucks (hopefully!) disappears. Service is fast. For the few people complaining here about the somewhat cranky service or whatever, I dare say they haven't had many dealings with baristas. Do you want a smile, or do you want consistently high quality, locally roasted coffee from an independent purveyor that has survived waves of commercial homogenization in the neighborhood? You can go to Chipotle, or you can go to De Mole. You can go to Starbucks, or you can go to Baruir. Choose the latter, and you choose to support the unique character of your neighborhood.

I came here years ago when it was a coffee roasting store. My daughter recommended the matcha latte. It was excellent, served hot and great flavor. I hope they expand a bit because they have great product to sell.
